Travel ‖ Inside Out,依舊前衛
-
『Lloyd’s Building』
Richard Rogers
內部因此變得乾淨、自由;
When I was studying in London,
I first noticed it from a passing bus just a quick glimpse,
but somehow I knew I’d come back to it.
And I did, a few times.
But even now, every time I walk toward it, there’s still this slight distance like I need to pause for a second before getting closer.
Richard Rogers flips the usual idea of architecture inside out.
Things that are normally hidden pipes, lifts, stair cores, building services are all pushed to the outside and become part of the façade.
So the building like a working system, openly showing how it functions.
That also frees up the inside
more open, more flexible.
Meanwhile, the outside becomes layered and expressive,
complex, but still very precise.
Design, in this sense,
isn’t about adding decoration
it’s about choosing what to reveal.
