來自於美國東岸馬薩諸塞州波士頓，畢業於哈佛大學及麻省理工學院建築學系的姚建築師，取得紐約州建築師執照後前往巴黎於貝聿銘事務所辦公室及聖地牙哥˙卡拉特拉瓦(Santiago Calatrava) 事務所工作。

1992年姚建築師移居台北，因多件建築設計案參與室內設計共同合作後，於2008年創立托比亞設計有限公司，展現獨特設計風格亦忠於自我理念的設計。

姚建築師相信一個周詳良善的建築與室內設計能夠帶給居住者全面性的美好生活態度，因此每個獨立的設計案，姚建築師會與業主進行多次的討論而進一步了解並協助業主釐清風格設計理念與實際需求。溝通討論過程中透過草圖、參考意象圖像向業主做為多面性的探討與可能；這是一個設計案成形的關鍵階段，讓客戶對於空間設計的期望能夠得到充分的了解。

飾材料與家飾布置，設計完全表達的同時也能符合客戶的期望與預算，因此托比亞設計堅持一貫的審慎評估接案量以維持專業的服務水平。

透過紮實豐富的建築背景，姚建築師能提供不僅止於室內或建築單面的思考，從建築外部環境與室內空間兩者關係而營造更多面的設計，姚建築師能維持或打破現有的空間格局，透過自然光線由室內內部引導至建築外部環境，結合外部自然環境的元素，塑造由內至外層次的空間感，打造自然與人文兩者融會貫通的生活空間。

Miss Yao originates from Boston, Massachusetts, where she completed her architectural training at both MIT and Harvard University. She practiced as an architect in several local firms but after working closely with several interior designers on her developer’s projects, she launched her own firm, Topia Design in 2008. Miss Yao’s project types include hotel interiors, retail design, residential VIP areas, and private residences. Locally, Miss Yao has completed projects as far away as Tainan, and internationally she completed one project in Cambodia. Due to her architectural background, she is able to offer a more comprehensive design service than most interior design firms. Topia Design's scope can also expand to include the construction fit out if necessary. Her working method is to first meet with the client several times to identify which aesthetic style and lifestyle or working quality concerns the client might have. This discussion takes place through the use of plans, sketches, and images. This crucial phase is to assist the client to vocalize what their aspirations for the space might be, apart from the functional ones. Miss Yao believes that architecture and interiors function as the background for everyday life, and if designed well, they can even affect the users’ lives in a positive way. Because she is so invested in her projects, each client is handled directly by herself. Topia Design prides itself in its efficiency as well as attention to detail.
