It’s always exciting to see some familiar faces popping up in the raised beds with our first blooms of the season! These early flowers are typically much smaller than their midsummer counterparts, but they’ll be hip-high and fully double before we know it.

And the excitement is just getting started, our 120+ (we’ve lost count to be honest) dahlia tubers are growing quickly, which means gorgeous dahlia blooms are right around the corner! We can’t wait to see the garden come alive with color.

Now to do some much needed weeding.

My husband and I spent the evening labeling and organizing the dahlia cuttings that will be available for our farm stand opening day on **June 20th from 8 AM–8 PM!**

We'll have 29 varieties of dahlias available, including some of our first-year seedlings. Seed-grown dahlias are always an exciting mystery thanks to the incredible genetic diversity within the species you never know exactly what colors, forms, and traits they may reveal!

Some of the varieties you'll find include:

What an honor it was to coordinate Lexi and Lane’s wedding day!

From start to finish, the day was absolutely perfect, and it was such a joy to help bring their vision to life. Watching these two celebrate surrounded by their family and friends made for a truly beautiful day.

Thank you, Lexi and Lane, for trusting me to be part of such a special moment in your lives. Wishing you both a lifetime of love, happiness, and unforgettable memories together!

Our mascot Mavis helped with weeding and flower breeding prep tonight.

Tonight we covered some of our earliest specialty blooms with organza bags so we can hand pollinate instead of open pollinate and leave it up to the bees and other pollinator friends. This allows us to control our genetic crossings and create intentional new zinnia varieties with traits we love.

Starting early gives us the chance to grow out 2–3 new generations before the end of the season… not that we have any extra room left anyway.😂
A little extra work now for some exciting surprises later.

Checked on some of our first-year dahlia seedlings this morning as they continue adjusting to the rough-and-tumble outdoor life 🌱☀️

Our first year seedlings are grown in grow bags incase any don’t make the cut for type, color and form.

Dahlias can be grown from tubers or from seed, and these little babies were all grown from seed. Because dahlias have so much genetic diversity, every single seedling is a complete mystery until it blooms , from color and petal shape to size and form, anything is possible!
