After watching the news last night, we have decided to postpone our event this Saturday, October 10 due to the hurricane. Hopefully, we will still have two market days on October 17 and 24 because we have a truckload of beautiful pumpkins! 🎃

Friends of Kinship Farms:

We have made the difficult decision to cancel our Farm Market and U-Pick Days for the Month of September.

Markets previously scheduled for 9/12 and 9/26 are cancelled!

The weather this season has been a battle from the beginning. We’ve had lots of dry spells with short deluges of rain. Many things we have planted haven’t come in at all, with soil conditions being either much too dry or too wet. A short rain and wind storm this past Friday night blew over many of our best blooms, with many of them breaking off and others left in the mud overnight. As you know, August was particularly hot, and we had very few visitors.

We have also been battling the eastern flat leaf bug, a pest that loves to suck all the moisture out of sunflower stalks. Sunflowers are our biggest crop, and what most people see first when they pass by our field. While the blooms still hold on, they sometimes aren’t of a quality that I feel comfortable selling to our customers.

With these challenges, we have decided to take September to recover with the hopes of coming back strong for our October Market Dates on the 10th and the 24th. Please make plans now to come visit us for your pumpkin purchases, and we will also be introducing our Flower Bar with a large variety of pre-picked blooms and greenery along with space for you to create your own bouquet onsite.

We will still have our market items such as spider lily and surprise lily bulbs (very rare), seeds collected and preserved from our farm, preserves, pickles, pre-made bouquets, etc. Our pumpkins will include many heirloom varieties, with lots of sizes and colors available. I’ll be getting a truck load again from the state Farmer’s Market, in addition to those we grow on the farm.

Thank you for understanding as we continue to learn how to best steward this land. We are so fortunate to have this legacy left to us from Corkey’s parents, and are so grateful for all those who have stopped in to visit with us.

See you in October!

Love,
Jeannine & Corkey Kennedy
