Granny square afghan from scraps of blue and variegateds with blue. Second photo is to prove the joining and border color is NAVY and not black. GRRR to iPhone color representation - and, yes, I DID try various adjustments. I’d welcome suggestions on how to do this better on my phone. I don’t care enough to get into fancy photography.

40 all-cotton hand knit/crocheted dishcloths will be donated tomorrow to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, each of them with a bottle of dish soap.

Made by the crafting for charity (Knitzvah) group of my synagogue, Beth El Congregation.

The idea comes from the wonderful group in NJ Each Stitch Counts. People who struggle with food insecurity often struggle with hygiene insecurity as well, but food banks of necessity have to focus on food.

This is an ongoing project for our group.

Really love all the different patterns and colors.

A red letter day in my task to use up small yarn scraps.

For now, I have no more small balls of #4 (worsted) acrylic scraps.

The piles - are from left:

(1) 8” squares to be sent to Love-Squared, a wonderful charity in the Toledo area that sorts assembles SO many blankets from these squares for kids in need.

(2) 7”x9” blocks for Warm Up America, the official charity of the Craft Yarn Council. WUA sorts and assembles the blocks into blankets for a variety of good causes. My synagogue’s Knitzvah group also uses 7x9 blocks, but these were ones that didn’t quite fit with our current needs.

(3) Granny squares in various sizes and in a variety of blues. I’ll border and join these to make 2 adult blackets. They’ll be donated locally.

(4) More granny squares in different sizes, these in neutral colors. I’ll also border and join these for 2 adult blankets.

(5) Last group of granny squares - in random colors. Not sure I’ll end up making these into one blanket or two. Any leftover grannies will have rounds added to make them 8” squares and will be added to the Love-Squared donation.

This is a great feeling. Many weeks of crochet over hundreds of hours. I love every minute of it.

NOT that I’m totally done with scraps! People will continue to give me their acrylic leftovers, which is terrific. I’ll certainly have yarn remaining from my own projects. I also have some 100% cotton scraps that’ll be turned into dishcloths.

PLUS - I already have a bunch of larger acrylic scraps - half skeins and such - in blue, green and other colors - to be made into my trademarked (no, not really) double stranded scrapghans with white or sand contrast stripes. Those I mostly sell, although I may start making them to donate. In a separate post, I’ve included photos of those too for anyone interested. (Which you’re so not required to be, even assuming you’ve made it this far in my screed.)

Fun, fun, fun.

Had a bunch of yarn scraps in neutral colors … and … voilà.

I already had all the inside portions of the squares, including the yarn ends sewn in. But I bordered the squares in charcoal grey and then did the continuous join and border in black over the last 5 days while watching hour after hour of Winter Olympic coverage.

Worked well for me, because I don’t have to look down very much when doing a granny square project.

This winter, I’ve made a bunch of garbage scarf “sets.”

The hats are garter stitch vertically with short rows. This is an easy technique and I’ve been able to do beanies in a variety of sizes and styles - brim, no brim, slouchy etc.

The scarves work up quickly and are a good way to use up scraps.

Will be donated to the Drop-In Human Trafficking Center of the Cleveland R**e Crisis Center.

My sister and I joined forces on this one.

In the past, I’ve used up scraps in a log cabin pattern. My sister did these squares but then didn’t feel like joining them. So I did that part.

Happily, I had both the gold and orange used for bordering in stock, so it turned into a bit of a scrapbuster too.

Baby blanket or small lapghan size.

We’re quite pleased with it!

I’ll never particularly like these blankets - not “organized” enough for my lawyer’s brain. But it appears some people do, and it’ll certainly keep someone snug and toasty.

I’ve never liked joining squares, but now have a method for joining granny squares that is easy and TOTALLY mindless (which is always my goal with my needlework).

Will be donated to the Drop-In Human Trafficking Center of the Cleveland R**e Crisis Center.
