The Sewing Room For the Last Decade plus, we've been offering Sewing & Fashion Classes to Enthusiasts of all ages. We make sewing a fun and enriching experience.

We offer a range of sewing classes, camps and workshops for Children and Adults. All of our Instructors are carefully selected for both their expertise in the needle arts and aptitude for teaching. Our shop carries Baby Lock Sewing Machines and PGM Professional Dress forms. We also sell a unique variety of fabric available for sale as well as a collection of indie pattern designers such as Bonjour

Teaspoon, Tilly and the Buttons, Sew Demented, Violette Field Threads & Alice Frost Designs. The Sewing Room is open during classes, camps, workshops and also by Appointment.

New on The Blog - Iceland Adventure 2026 - Part 1
It’s been just about a month since returning from the Land of Fire & Ice as Iceland is know. I’m still struck by its magic and majesty. The landscapes were otherworldly, the people kind and charming and the experience magical overall.

The idea blossomed last year after a tour company reached out to me about leading a tour. I picked Iceland out of several countries because I knew the population spoke english in addition to Icelandic, the scenery I saw online was magnificent, and they have a lot of sheep, which often means wool and a textile industry. I’ve been on a few retreats that have centered around craft in beautiful scenery and that’s really what I wanted for my trip to be. So I worked with the organization to come up with my own special craft and textile retreat in a beautiful locale. Read more on our blog:

INTRO TO SEWING - Your next step after Machine Basics.

So you’ve taken our Machine Basics class but aren’t ready to take a "workshop" and/or feel like you want some more sewing foundation before committing to a bigger project….join us for this 2-3 session series where we give you a MB refresh and provide an overview of patterns, fabric, cutting, pressing and more all the while making an Apron, Tote Bag, Zipper pouch or Pj pants.

Cost includes material and supplies needed for this workshop.

Please note:

*ALL students who have never used a sewing machine before must take our Machine Basics Class before enrolling in any of our Classes and/or Workshops.

Tuesdays 9/8 & 9/15 from 6-8pm

Mend and Make Beautiful: Visible Mending with Sashiko and Boro

You’ve probably heard the phrase “mend and make do”, but why should you make do when you can make beautiful? Embrace the rips, tears, holes, and worn areas that show how much you’ve loved your clothing with visible mending! In this class, you’ll learn how to use sashiko and boro (a simple running stitch over fabric scraps) to give your old favorites new life.

Supplies:

Clothing to be mended (jeans, shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, etc.)
Fabric scraps
Sashiko needle
Sashiko thread

Fabric scissors and straight pins (available for use at The Sewing Room)

Price for kit is $15 paid directly to the instructor
Kit includes:

One of my favorite spots during our retreat in Iceland was a trip to the Uppspuni Mini Woolen mill and yarn store in Hella.
Hulda was an amazing hostess and the yarn was the softest we felt.
What a special experience…

Up-Cycle Studio - Ages 13+ - Ages 13 - Adult
Sundays 10/11 & 10/18 2:30-5:30

This class is for students that want to alter existing clothing into new styling for continued wear.

Students will bring in 2-3 garments or other textiles for assessment and brainstorming. Instruction is customized to each student’s skill level. A pattern may need to be purchased for complete transformations.

Upcycling Examples

• mens shirts into a dress
• tablecloth into a jacket
• towels into bags
• straight leg jeans into flares

FASHION DESIGN FOR KIDS, TEENS AND ADULTS !

This Fall we have Fashion Design Classes for both Kids ages 8-14 and also for Teens aged 15 - to adult.
Kids classes run Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-5:30 in three 5-week sessions throughout the Fall.
Fashion Design for Teens & Adults will run on Wednesday evenings 6-8 from Oct 7 thru Nov 11th.

Students must bring their featherweight sewing machine, foot control and power cord. Oil, lubricant, feet and attachments are available for sale after class.
