I am an underappreciated abstract painter living and working in Albuquerque, New Mexico (or as my marketing consultant likes to call it, "Santa Fe South").

My latest original work is now on display at Farina Pizza, 510 Central Ave SE in Albuquerque! 🍕🎨

They’re open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday — and if you haven’t been, it’s truly some of the best gourmet pizza in New Mexico. Great wine list, too.

The paintings will be up through January 3rd, and all pieces are available for purchase right there on site. Stop in, enjoy a meal, and take a look!

“Ghost Bull at Phantom Ranch” is my latest contemporary abstract interpretation of southwestern spirit and myth. Rich earthy browns and crimson tones evoke desert heat, while the stylized bull —rendered in turquoise and ochre—suggests both strength and mystery. The textured surface and primitive geometry blend modern abstraction with timeless southwestern symbolism. Mixed media on canvas. 24x36.

“The Sinner’s Crossroads” is a bold mixed media painting on canvas that layers raw textures with a striking old rugged cross-like form, set against a muted, weathered backdrop. I stuck to an earthy palette and chose deliberate simplicity in my attempt to explore themes of struggle and choice in the face of existential threat, inviting viewers to contemplate the political, spiritual and emotional turning point our nation is facing at this moment in time.

Introducing “Santa Fe on a Tight Budget,” my latest original acrylic and mixed media piece. This work is about creating beauty from simplicity, with layered textures of cardboard, bold brushwork, and delicate matchsticks to represent the balance between grit and creativity.

“Amarillo Morning” by Travis Parkin
Acrylic & Mixed Media on Canvas
30x40 • $900

In "Amarillo Morning," I have attempted to capture the warmth and mystery of dawn here in the great Southwest with bold fields of ochre, layered textures, and soft abstract geometric forms. The subtle interplay of shadow and color is intended to evoke a quiet stillness, inviting the viewer into a contemplative space between light and form. My use of mixed media elements is meant to add tactile depth, making each glance a discovery.

Horizontal bands of muted hues harmonize with vibrant yellows, creating a tranquil yet dynamic composition. Rectangular shapes, adorned with textured surfaces, introduce depth and intrigue amidst the flat planes. These elements interact seamlessly, suggesting a dialogue between the organic and the geometric. The simplicity evokes contemplation while inviting personal interpretation. Rich in visual resonance, this piece embodies a modern aesthetic that would enhance any contemporary setting, making it a thoughtful focal point in your space.
