Horse medallions (known as horse brasses) were primarily given out as agricultural competition prizes, parade awards, and merit badges starting in the late 19th century. The first brass was awarded in 1891, and organizations continue to award them at historic events like the London Harness Horse Parade. Thanks Google 😉
