The Rule of Three: the easiest styling trick you’re probably not using.
When you’re styling a shelf, coffee table, console, or countertop, try grouping your accessories in threes.
Why does it work so well? Our eyes naturally enjoy visual variety with a sense of balance. Three objects create enough contrast to feel interesting, without becoming visually overwhelming.
Try combining:
🤍 Different heights — tall, medium, low
🤍 Different shapes — round, sculptural, angular
🤍 Different textures — glass, wood, ceramic, metal
For example: a tall vase + a small bowl + a stack of books or object.
The result? A little more movement, a little more balance, and a display that feels effortlessly collected rather than perfectly matched.
Next time a space feels almost right, look around and ask yourself: “Can I create a group of three?”
