We’d love to introduce you to Inez... one of our recently completed projects in Altadena. This kitchen, breakfast nook, and butler’s pantry were taken down to the studs in a 1929 Spanish home that had already undergone several remodels. The original kitchen was cramped and awkwardly laid out which was not ideal for clients that love to cook daily.

Arches from the exterior were reintroduced inside, creating an enfilade that flows between the laundry, butler’s pantry, and kitchen. Curves became the defining language of the space, from the coved ceiling above to the architectural transitions.

And then, the showstopper: slabs of Rouge de Savoie marble. Rich, bold, and full of movement, anchoring the entire design. We kept the surrounding palette soft and tonal, allowing it to take center stage while the rest of the space feels calm and cohesive.

One of the questions we hear most often is, “What paint color is that? For our recently completed Sutton and Inez projects, we exclusively used colors throughout the spaces.

Sutton, a historic Tudor with classic English architectural details, felt like a natural fit for Farrow & Ball’s heritage colors.

Our Inez project, a kitchen renovation in a historic Spanish home, called for the perfect shade of red to saturate the butler’s pantry.

We used our all-time favorite white paint, “Slipper Satin” in both projects.

For Sutton:
- Kitchen Cabinetry: Shaded White
- Walls & Ceiling: Slipper Satin
- Powder Bath Trim: Yeabridge Green
- Bar Cabinetry & Trim: Bancha
- Living Room Built-Ins: Dead Salmon

For Inez:
- Pantry Walls: Estruscan Red
- Walls: Slipper Satin

Happy Mendocino Monday - the day of the week where we update you on the progress of one of our Altadena rebuild projects following the Eaton Fires.

Today, we introduce you to… Gwen, an Italianate villa we’ve been closely collaborating with on.

We’re SO excited to share the imagery that we’ve been saving for inspiration now that we’re into design development following nailing down her floorplan.

Stay tuned for more updates on her ❤️

Happy Mendocino Monday - the day of the week where I update you on my rebuild progress in Altadena after we lost our home in the Eaton Fire last January. HOLY COW!!! We’re already in April which means in about 8 months, we’ll finally be back home. Things are pushing along at lightning speed and we are NEARLY ready for drywall, which always feels like such a major turning point. Before anything gets closed up, we’ve been on site constantly doing our final checks: checking plumbing roughs, confirming electrical placements, reviewing HVAC… all of those invisible decisions that secretly shape how a home actually lives and functions.

This is one of those phases that isn’t particularly glamorous, but it’s SO SO important. Once drywall goes in, there’s no easy going back, so we take our time here to make sure every single thing is exactly where it needs to be.

At the same time, exterior stucco and paint are about to begin, which means we’ll finally start to see the house take on some real personality (goodbye, skeleton phase!!!). Flooring and tile will be going in next month which will be a lengthy process (more on the tile i’m using in a few weeks 😉).

Client trust isn’t built overnight... it comes from clear and consistent communication from Day 1. I recently had the pleasure of getting to sit down with Anastasia of .studio to discuss building client trust at our design firm.

In this snippet from my conversation, we talk about what actually builds trust with clients today- especially in a world where everyone is more informed, more cautious, and (rightfully) asking more questions.

For us, it comes down to clarity and repetition. Clear expectations. Clear communication. Clear numbers. And then repeating that process over and over again so nothing feels uncertain or hidden.

When you’re asking someone to trust you with their home (and a not-so-small investment), the process should feel just as detailed and considered as the final result. If you’re a designer, I hope this gives a little insight into how we approach it. And if you’re a client, this is exactly what you should expect from your team.

We’ve been sitting on this one for a while… and we are SO SO excited to finally share ❤️

For my Altadena rebuild, we’re officially partnering with - a brand I live and breathe for and have been coveting for years in projects both personal and professional. If you’ve been following along, you already know how often I sing their praises :)

Today, I’m sharing a few of the colors that will be going into the house, but also touching on a topic we get asked about all the time: why we never color match.

I could go on for hours about this, but it comes down to the unique undertones of F&B paints. When you color match to another brand, it might look close-ish at first glance, but you lose that complexity. The color can fall flat, lack depth… or just not look quite right in different lighting.

Over the next few months, I’ll deep dive into the process of creating a whole-home color story from scratch while touching on the psychology of paint colors and how the colors and finishes we use in our house affects the way that we live in them.

I hope you’ll follow along ❤️ Huge huge shout out to the team for making this dream a reality

Happy Mendocino Monday - the day of the week where we check on the progress of my home rebuild after losing it in the Eaton Fire.

Today we touch on cost effective light fixtures that I’ll be putting in my home. Alongside vintage and antique pieces, there always has to be balance in the budget.

A few stars of the show are:

1. The Spotlight sconce by in unlacquered brass for my kitchen and primary bedroom

2. The Jean sconce by (we actually have several Huey fixtures in various finishes throughout the house ❤️)

3. The Daisy flush mount by (support local businesses!!!)

What do you want to see next week? 😉

Happy Mendocino Monday :)

This week we’re checking in on another Altadena project that we’ve been quietly hard at work on. But there’s one small problem… we haven’t named her yet.

As many of you know, every project in our studio gets a name. It helps us tell the story of the home as it evolves - and this one deserves a good one.

This 1936 Spanish Revival sits in the heart of Altadena, standing almost alone on a street that was largely lost in the Eaton Fire. Miraculously, she survived structurally, but the home still required extensive remediation. While we’re at it, we’re also renovating the bathrooms and advising on designing a new Mediterranean-inspired courtyard.

Our client has been deeply committed to preserving the soul of the house, and we’ve been working closely together to make sure as many historic elements as possible remain intact… honoring the craftsmanship and character that make these old homes so special.

Swipe through to see the mood boards guiding our design direction, along with a few of the architectural details that made us fall in love with the house in the first place.

And now the important part…

What should we name her?

Drop your suggestions in the comments! We’re officially taking submissions. 👀

See you all next week ❤️🌹

Happy Mendocino Monday - the day of the week where we check in on the progress of my home rebuild after losing it in the Eaton Fire.

And my, my, my… we have lots of updates to show you! The construction is moving at lightning speed - rough plumbing is complete, rough electrical is in, wiring is in progress and doors & windows are being installed each day.

This stage of the build has us on-site doing our electrical and plumbing walks to double check rough locations against our plans. Catching any errors prior to drywall going in is pivotal to staying on track and avoiding any costly changes later down the line. I can’t believe it but drywall is going in at the end of next month!! Let us know what part of the process you’d like to see next ❤️
