Harris Deller, whom I still consider my teacher, once told me a pot's surface should have at least three layers. That led me to start thinking about how traces of the making process can be built up as a sort of narrative for the viewer. Glaze sometimes plays a wildcard role. It can sit on top of everything to both obscure and reveal, and at the same time fade to the background and provide atmosphere and space.
