It happens a lot. Shoplifting is stealing, people. Teach your kids; hold your friends accountable; report suspicious activity. Sometimes it’s little things, sometimes it’s valuable things (like these new Birkenstocks) that walk out or get tossed in a tote bag. Usually it’s all for sport; these are not desperate people needing quick cash; these are usually selfish people who just take whatever they want without regard for the owner or what it costs someone else. Small retail is hard enough without criminal activity. This kind of thing makes you want to close up shop (we aren’t, BTW), but seriously…we show kind hospitality to everyone who comes in. Probably these will be listed for sale soon on one of the many online marketplaces. But if you see someone in silver Birkenstock sneakers, say “hey, nice kicks…where’d you get those” 😡

Time for “Best of the Best” again, and we would love your votes! 🗳️🫶🏻

This year I didn’t ASK for any nominations and was delighted to see our shop nominated for Best Antique Shop through organic nominations only…thank you! I share community in downtown Alton with some greats like Country Meadows Antiques and Tinner's Anvil American Handwork, and when you visit Honeybee I’m always happy to recommend other shops nearby. There are so many others who I consider the Best of the Best in our area who aren’t represented in the nominations, and I’m left a little mystified. 🤔(I mean…hello…there needs to be a sandwich category for The Brown Bag Bistro right? And is Post Commons on there or did I miss it?). Also SO many small shops and galleries that went under the radar this time. Nevertheless, we are grateful to be nominated, and encourage you to vote for your downtown Alton favorites:
