🧪 CLEAN TALK with Gibson Embers

Episode 037 • Myth vs. Fact

🩷 WAIT… THAT PINK STUFF IN YOUR SHOWER ISN’T MOLD?! 😳

You know the stuff.

That weird pinkish-orange film that starts showing up around your shower drain, grout, caulk, sink or even inside the toilet.

Most of us take one look at it and think:

“Great. Mold.” 🙄

Except…

🧪 IT MAY NOT BE MOLD AT ALL.

One common culprit behind that pink bathroom buildup is a bacterium called Serratia marcescens.

Yep.

BACTERIA. 🦠

Serratia can produce a reddish-pink pigment, which is where that lovely little pop of bathroom color comes from. 😂

And bathrooms happen to give it a pretty cozy place to hang out.

💧 Moisture
🌡️ Warmth
🧼 Residue and organic material

Basically, your shower said:

“Would you like a damp little condo?”

And Serratia said:

“Absolutely.” 😂

🩷 SO WHY DOES IT KEEP COMING BACK?!

Because wiping away the pink film removes what you can SEE…

but if the conditions that helped it grow are still there, it can return.

That means keeping bathroom surfaces cleaner, drier and improving ventilation so everything isn’t sitting damp for hours can help make the environment a whole lot less inviting.

And here's an important distinction:

🧽 CLEANING ≠ DISINFECTING.

Cleaning physically removes dirt, residue and microorganisms from a surface.

Disinfecting uses an appropriate product to kill microorganisms on the surface and it needs to be used exactly according to its label, including the required contact or dwell time.

Usually?

CLEAN FIRST.

Then disinfect when appropriate.

Because remember our Clean Talk lesson about dwell time?

Spray-and-immediately-wipe isn't necessarily disinfecting anything. 👀

⚠️ And before you attack that pink stuff with every cleaner under your sink:

DON’T MIX CLEANING PRODUCTS.

If you're using a disinfectant, make sure it's appropriate for the surface and follow the label directions.

🖤 THE BOTTOM LINE

That pinkish-orange stuff hanging around your bathroom may look like mold…

but one common culprit is actually BACTERIA.

And if it keeps returning?

Your bathroom isn't personally attacking you. 😂

It may just be giving those microorganisms exactly what they love:

MOISTURE + RESIDUE + TIME. 🧪

💬 LET’S TALK ABOUT IT!

Be honest…

Did you think the pink stuff was mold?! 😂👇🏻

And where does it always seem to show up in YOUR bathroom, shower, sink, grout or toilet?

🎤 UNOFFICIAL TED TALKS WITH HEATHER — SESSION 013

FRIENDSHIP DOES NOT COME WITH A RULE-EXEMPTION CARD.

On today’s TED Talk no one asked for…

Can we please talk about people who are perfectly fine with rules…

until the rule applies to them? 😂

Suddenly it’s:

“But I thought…”

“I was going to…”

“I didn’t know…”

“I figured because we’re friends…”

No.

Friendship does not come with:

✨ unlimited extensions
✨ special pricing forever
✨ ignored deadlines
✨ rewritten rules
✨ or the magical “but I’m different” package

If there is a cutoff time…

it applies to you.

If there is a deadline…

it applies to you.

If a promotion ended…

it ended.

If everybody else had to follow the same process…

you are not somehow the DLC character with bonus privileges. 😭😂

And can we retire this one while we’re here:

“But I supported you before…”

Okay?

Was that support…

or a prepaid voucher for future exceptions? 👀

Because support with conditions is not support.

If your kindness toward me gets thrown back in my face the second I hold a boundary…

that wasn’t kindness.

That was leverage.

And I am NOT interested in relationships business or personal where every favor becomes evidence in a future court case. 😂

Here’s the really wild part:

You can be my friend.

You can support my business.

You can be part of my community.

And I can STILL tell you:

“No.” 😱

Wild I know. 🙄

Those things can coexist.

A boundary is not betrayal.

A rule is not disrespect.

Fairness is not favoritism just because you didn’t get the outcome you wanted.

And if I make everybody else follow the rule but bend it for you because we’re “friends”…

then I’m not being kind.

I’m being unfair to everyone else.

That part matters.

Because community only works when people trust that the rules mean the same thing for everybody.

Not:

“The rules are the rules… unless I’m inconvenienced.” 😭😂

And one more thing for the folks who love turning a boundary into an argument:

I am allowed to explain a rule once.

I am not required to spend the next eight hours defending it until you finally agree with me.

You do not have to like my boundary.

You just have to decide whether you can respect it.

If not?

That’s okay too.

But we are not going to rewrite reality until somehow your choice became my fault.

Absolutely not.🙂‍↔️

I mean you could try 🤷🏻‍♀️ but let me know how that goes for you?!🤣

That meeting has been adjourned. 😂🎤

👏🏻 Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

The coffee is in the lobby. The rules still apply there too. ☕🤣

🧪 CLEAN TALK with Gibson Embers

Episode 036 • Cleaning Science

🧽 THAT LITTLE WHITE SPONGE IS DOING WHAT?! 😳

You wet a Magic Eraser…

rub it across a scuff…

and somehow the mark practically DISAPPEARS.

No bottle of cleaner.
No scrubbing concoction.
Just water and that weird little white sponge. 😂

So what the heck is actually happening?

🧪 HERE’S THE SCIENCE

Magic Eraser-style sponges are made from MELAMINE FOAM.

And despite feeling soft and squishy in your hand, melamine foam has a very fine, hard microscopic structure that gives it an abrasive cleaning action.

In other words…

That little white sponge works a bit like VERY fine sandpaper. 😳

When you dampen it and rub it across a surface, the foam mechanically rubs away scuffs, grime and residue.

So the “magic” isn’t some mysterious cleaner being activated by water.

A whole lot of the cleaning power is coming from the SPONGE ITSELF. 🧽

👀 AND THAT’S ALSO WHY YOU SHOULDN’T USE IT ON EVERYTHING.

If something is abrasive enough to remove a stubborn mark…

it may also be abrasive enough to affect the surface underneath it.

Melamine foam can potentially dull, scratch or remove protective finishes from certain glossy, polished, sealed, painted or otherwise delicate surfaces.

So before you go Magic-Erasing your entire house:

✔️ Check whether it’s appropriate for the surface.
✔️ Test a hidden spot first.
✔️ Use gentle pressure.

Basically…

DON’T GIVE THE MAGIC ERASER TOO MUCH POWER. 🤣

🤓 AND WHY DOES IT DISAPPEAR WHILE YOU CLEAN?

Because the foam itself wears down as you use it similar to an actual eraser.

That crumbling and shrinking?

Totally normal.

It’s literally sacrificing itself for your baseboards. 😂🫡

🚨 ONE MORE THING:

A melamine sponge CLEANS.

It does NOT automatically disinfect.

Removing visible dirt and marks is different from disinfecting a surface, which requires an appropriate disinfectant used according to its label directions and contact time.

🖤 THE BOTTOM LINE

Magic Erasers really are pretty damn impressive…

but there’s no magic inside that little white sponge.

It’s MATERIALS SCIENCE. 🧪

And now that you know it works through an ultra-fine abrasive action…

maybe don’t aggressively scrub every surface you own with one. 😂

💬 LET’S TALK ABOUT IT!

Did you KNOW a Magic Eraser worked like a super-fine abrasive?! 😳

And what’s the one thing in your house you LOVE using one on? 👇🏻

🎤 UNOFFICIAL TED TALKS WITH HEATHER — SESSION 012

PLEASE STOP TAGGING AND IN EVERY DAMN POST.🙄

On today’s TED Talk no one asked for…

We need to talk about the digital equivalent of standing in Walmart with a megaphone yelling:

“EVERYBODY LOOK AT ME.” 😭😂

Because some businesses and creators have gotten way too comfortable using:

on every. single. post.🤦🏻‍♀️

New product?

Random thought?

Uploaded a necklace?

Sally said something about Susie and now we need a 14-paragraph update?

Apparently…
😭

Friend.

That tag was not created so you could digitally shake everybody by the shoulders every time you hit “post.”

It’s supposed to mean:

“Hey, this is actually important and I really need you to see it.”

Not:

“I made another thing. Please clap.” 😂👏🏻

Because when EVERYTHING gets treated like an announcement…

nothing feels important.

People stop paying attention.

They mute you.

They ignore the notifications.

They unfollow.

And yes, some of them will stop buying because your page starts feeling less like a business they enjoy following and more like a smoke detector with a dying battery.

BEEP.

BEEP.

BEEP.

LOOK AT MY POST. 😭😂

And listen…

Engagement is hard.

We know.

The rest of us are out here creating content, building relationships, replying to comments, supporting other pages, testing what works, watching things flop, and trying again.

You know…

doing the work.

Because:

A NOTIFICATION IS NOT ENGAGEMENT.👏🏻

If someone only saw your post because you summoned them like Beetlejuice…

that is not the flex you think it is. 😂

Now, does that mean never use the tags?

No.

Big announcement? Sure.

Important launch? Absolutely.

Deadline, urgent update, or something your community genuinely needs to see?

TAG AWAY.

But your Tuesday afternoon post about the bracelet you uploaded?

Respectfully…

we’ll find it. 😂

Use the tags intentionally.

Make them mean something.

And trust your content enough to earn attention without ringing everybody’s digital doorbell every five minutes.

Because if every post requires to survive…

the tag might not be the problem. 👀😂🤷🏻‍♀️

👏🏻 Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

The coffee is in the lobby. Nobody was tagged to tell you. ☕🤣
