I love the changing of the seasons.
I’m always eager for the colors, smells, flavors and traditions that come with each one. In September and October, pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon drifting through the air feel warm and comforting.
But by the time winter arrives, I’m ready to trade them for the scent of fresh juniper greens and firewood burning.
Then I start waiting for spring—for flowers to bloom and the world to become colorful again. And eventually, I’m more than ready for the West Texas wind to settle down and give way to summer sunshine, sunscreen and chlorine. 😂
It may still be a little early to go completely into fall, but Amarillo’s cooler temperatures and rainy weather gave me an unstoppable urge to fill a pumpkin with bronze, rust orange, deep burgundy and just a splash of yellow.
Then the fall leaves came in last week, and I couldn’t hold back any longer. They had to go in too.
Now I have one very important decision to make…
Do I make it available and imagine someone’s face when their front door opens and surprise and joy take over? Or do I drive home smiling, glance over at it riding in my passenger seat, and feel that same joy when I place it in the center of my own dining table?
I’m honestly not sure I’m ready to part with this one. 🍂🎃
