I’m thrilled to share something I’ve been working on all summer: my newest painting, Here, Now, is now installed at the Ypsilanti District Library’s downtown branch on Michigan Ave.
I spent four months of the summer bringing it to life. The piece is acrylic on wood panel, a full 6 feet by 4 feet (whoa!), and built up in thick, sculptural texture. The clouds, feathers, and lily pads all stand off the surface, so the painting changes as you move past it and as the light shifts.
I chose a blue heron—a bird native to Michigan—as the scene’s unhurried anchor. Everything around it is in motion, but the heron simply stands and watches. That’s the feeling I hope the painting gives anyone who stops in front of it: permission to slow down and be present, right here and right now.
Here, Now is part of the library’s collection and is not for sale, but it’s free to visit during regular library hours.

There will be a public reception in celebration of all of the new library artworks in December, and everyone is welcome. More details coming soon.
Cheers,
