After Jamie proudly declared herself a selfish knitter, we had to take the question to Young Makers Knit Night:
Are YOU a selfish knitter? 👀🧶

The answers ranged from dedicated gift knitters, to “medium selfish,” to people who have officially stopped knitting for anyone who doesn’t appreciate it.

And then there’s our winner: nine months pregnant, nothing knit for the baby, but Christmas mittens for herself are DONE. 😂

Honestly, we think there’s room for all of it. Knit for your friends. Knit for your family. Knit because you need a deadline. Knit something solely because you want it.

But now we need to know where everyone falls on the scale:
Gift knitter, balanced knitter, medium selfish… or VERY selfish knitter?

We’re collecting handmade knit and crochet hats for Common Man for Ukraine - a volunteer-run organization in New Hampshire supporting Ukrainian children and families affected by the war.

Meet Jamie 🧶💛 One of our Friday Night Knit Night regulars, a friend of the shop, and a very proud selfish knitter.
Because no, she does not want to open an Etsy shop. No, her knits are not for sale. And yes, that hat would probably cost you $300 anyway. 😂
For Jamie, knitting is time she sets aside for herself — and after choosing beautiful yarn, putting in hours of work, and falling in love with the finished piece… sometimes the “gift” is simply not leaving her house.
As she puts it: “Not everything has to have a price on it. Not everything has to be for sale.”
And frankly, we support keeping the $50 socks. 🧦

Pattern Prophecies is back with Contrasts: Textured Knitting by Meiju K-P ✨🧶
This beautiful Laine Publishing collection includes 22 textured patterns — sweaters, cardigans, scarves, hats, and one poncho that immediately proved we know each other a little too well. 😂
Between the Long Road Cardigan, the cable-detailed Dijon Sweater, and Laine, there were a lot of contenders in this one… plus an excuse to pair some of our favorite shop yarns with future projects, including Lucky Tweed, Juniper Moon Moonshine, and Fonty Soyuz.
And in a shocking Pattern Prophecies development: we actually got pretty close this time.
Also, we maintain that buying yarn, collecting patterns, and figuring out how they go together are three entirely separate hobbies. 😌

Knitting and crocheting can really cause nutritional and health deficits …. not because yarn has anything intrinsically wrong with it, but because knitting and crocheting are SO AWESOME AND FUN AND ADDICTING that we literally can’t stop doing it not even for water or Vitamin D
