It’s officially that time of year when knitting goes from a relaxing hobby to a full-blown logistical nightmare. 😂
59 days until Christmas, 17 unfinished WIPs, a growing list of handmade gifts, and somehow we’re still thinking about casting on something new.
How’s everyone holding up? Are we ahead of schedule, in denial, or already planning to give people their Christmas gifts in February? 🧶🎄

We’re back with another round of Pattern Prophecies! 🔮🧶
This time we’re flipping through Observations: Knits and Essays from the Forest by Lotta H. Löthgren, published by Laine Publishing. With 9 beautiful patterns inspired by nature and the changing seasons, we had plenty to choose from!
Here’s what we picked:
For Taylor: Madelyn chose the Lake Socks in Colebrook Fi*****ng from Granite Mountain Fiber Co.
For Madelyn: Taylor chose a gorgeous shawl paired with the unbelievably soft Moustache from Fonty.
Madelyn’s pick for herself: The Badger Sweater in Firefly from Juniper Moon Farm!
Some questionable color choices, a little selfish knitting, and a confession about a Christmas gift that’s been sitting on the needles since LAST year.

New colors of Harris have arrived, and we’re already dreaming up projects for them! 🧶

If you haven’t tried Harris from Juniper Moon Farm yet, you’re missing out on some seriously good texture. Made with a blend of recycled fibers and silk bourette, Harris has a subtle sheen, a slightly slubby finish, and colorful little flecks that give each shade so much character.

And these new colors are just a few of the gorgeous options we have available at Knits & Pieces!

We’ve already put Harris to work on our Harriet Sweater by LEKNIT, using color 116 Lake Windermere for the main body and Rowan Alpaca Classic for the colorwork. Our shop sample is almost finished, so keep an eye out for it!

We also think Harris would be beautiful in the Hanging Flowers Shawl by KnittingsworthDesigns. That delicate leaf lace paired with Harris’s rustic texture? Yes, please.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you probably remember Priscilla. And if you’re new here, you’re in for a treat!
When we first shared Priscilla’s story, we had no idea just how many people it would reach. At 84 years old, with over 70 years of knitting experience, Priscilla reminded us why we love hearing the stories behind the people who walk through our doors.
Her video received so much love that we decided it deserved another moment in the spotlight.
So whether you’re meeting Priscilla for the first time or watching her story again, we hope you enjoy getting to know one of our favorite Knits & Pieces customers. ❤️

Alpaca Stardust might be one of the most fun yarns in the shop right now. It’s soft, fluffy, and has just enough shimmer to make even a simple stitch pattern feel a little special.

We’ve been playing around with pattern ideas for it, and Madelyn already gave us a very convincing example with her LIND by the Woolfolk Design Team in Lightning Green. The oversized collar and simple shape really let the yarn do the work, and now we’re fully on board with the whole collar/dickie moment.

For something a little more ambitious, we love OGDEN by Veta Romanenkova. All of those cables would catch the light beautifully in Alpaca Stardust, and we keep coming back to the idea of making it in Modern Love Pink.

And if you want a smaller project before committing to a full sweater, ODE by the Woolfolk Design Team would be such a good option. The cable texture would look gorgeous in the Silver colorway.

We’re taking craft night to the movies. 🧶🎬
Join us for the very first Casting On: A Knit & Crochet Screening, hosted by Knits & Pieces at Greenbelt Cinema! We’re kicking things off with a spooky-season classic: The Craft.
Bring whatever you’re working on—knitting, crochet, or any other handwork—and settle in for a movie night with fellow makers. The theater lights will stay low enough to enjoy the film, but bright enough that you can still see your stitches.
Come for the movie, bring your project, swap a few stitch tips (or spells), and hang out with a room full of people who also think crafting during a movie sounds like a perfect night.

We’re a little obsessed with Firefly from Juniper Moon Farm right now. ✨
It’s fluffy, lightweight, soft, and has the prettiest little multicolor metallic thread running through it. The shimmer is subtle enough that it doesn’t feel sparkly—it just catches the light in a really beautiful way. And with 415 yards in a 100g ball, there’s a LOT you can do with it.
We pulled together a few patterns we think would be especially fun in Firefly—and Karen has already tested our theory with a Sophie Hood in color 03 Epiphany. The little flecks of color look SO good in garter stitch.
