Gull Cottage Antiques, LLC Our specialty is American Country Furniture & Accessories 1750-1900 I have been an avid collector since my first antiques purchase at age 12.

I have a museum curator background that has served me well in this career for 40 + years and counting. I have always believed that one does not simply purchase an item but that we also purchase a slice of American history along with each piece. With this in mind I always try to share with the buyer any background information about your purchase. That is what makes collecting so very fascinating to me. My husband and I specialize in colonial, country and primitive antiques. We offer furniture in original finish, original paint as well as refinished. I do not sell anything I would not accept into my own home. In fact, some pieces are right out of my home! We shop back east, down south, in the mid-west for early country items. HOURS OF OPERATION:

Our seasonal business opens mid-April (Early March if weather permits) through mid-November culminating in our Annual Christmas Open House Sale! April & May hours are weekends from 10-5.
~June through Labor Day we continue our weekend schedule plus most Wed.- Fridays from noon to 5 p.m - by chance. You can always look for me in the gardens. Stop by sometime and drink in our view of the sparkling waters of Lake Huron! We would love to meet you.

Who can resist this face? A certain shoe company knew that and thus a Brand Model was born. Made out of papier mache material (I think) - it does not have the texture of egg carton material and definitely not plastic. This is the early mascot for the Hush Puppy Shoe Company.
This was purchased at the estate sale of the Polewach family who owned several stores around the Thumb of Michigan. A terrific cross-collectible!

Recently found is this pair of NOS (New Old Stock) toddler shoes in their original box. Sold in the "thumb" of Michigan at the Polewach stores I acquired two pair of this style. A rich chocolate brown in color with matching laces. Original boxes are in splendid condition as well. Don't miss these Thumb collectibles!

SOLD!! OFF TO A GREAT HOME IN FLORIDA!! just acquired several baskets - mostly buttocks style. However the top photo shows an almost square small market basket. I did not photograph all of the buttocks baskets - two of them are quite large and heavy both in "duty" and weight! The center picture below shows three of the smaller ones with the one on the right being a half basket. (Half baskets fit the shape of the body better when going out to harvest small fruit or herbs.)

Come on up to the Thumb of Michigan and explore all of our terrific shops. We have some fine eateries as well.

THE FIG HAS SOLD!
I happened upon an original shipping box of alabaster stone fruit. There is a fig, apples (2 different), banana, peach, bunch of grapes, a pear and an orange. All are nestled in shredded raffia and are priced individually or as a set.
I no longer ship due to drastic increases in shipping costs. I do apologize.

Come on up to the Thumb of Michigan where today the water is absolutely sparkling, the air is crisp and the colors are just beginning to appear. Open today (Sunday) 11 am to 5 pm.

OFF TO A TERRIFIC HOME! WILL BECOME PART OF A PARISVILLE COLLECTION!
At a recent estate sale I found this interesting gummed advertising for a store in Parisville, Michigan. The customer made their purchase and the shop owner wrapped it carefully in brown paper off of a roll that sat on the long counter. The gummed paper strip was moistened to activate the glue then applied to hold the folded paper together in place of string. Interesting is the fact that the Great Fire of 1881 swept through the Thumb of Michigan and completely wiped out the town of Parisville as well as killing over 600 residents in the town and surrounding area. We drove to the town - rebuilt over the years and found nothing that reflects the area pre-fire. Even the cemetery is void of cemetery stones for those souls who were taken in the fire. Buried in a mass grave perhaps? No one was around to ask.
If you collect "Thumb" area memorabilia this is a rarity you will appreciate. Found in a celluloid can with lid. Do not miss out!

We are back from our vacation celebrating 60 years of marriage! Had a terrific time in Traverse City visiting the sites on the Peninsula including the lighthouse at Old Mission Point and some of the wineries. Fabulous weather was a plus. This trip as so special and a much needed get-away. We also came back with some fresh merchandise from a lovely antiques shop there and have everything priced and out. (I cannot travel without doing some antiquing!)

Open Sunday 11 am to 5 pm. Come up to the Thumb and explore! Loads of shops still open and awaiting your visit.
