Something a little different with this herringbone flooring!

For this project in Webster Groves, we installed 2 1/4" red oak hardwood, including a beautiful herringbone pattern that adds so much character to the space. The floors were then sanded and finished with Medium Brown stain and a water-based finish.

A little repair work can make a big difference!

Here's a recent hardwood floor refinishing project we completed in Godfrey, Illinois!

We sanded and refinished 725 sq. ft. of 2¼" Red Oak hardwood flooring using Bona Antique Brown stain, giving these floors a fresh look!

How long does it take to refinish hardwood floors?

Most hardwood floor refinishing projects take approximately 4–5 days, although smaller projects may be completed in as little as 3 days!

A good rule of thumb is roughly one working day for every 200 square feet, but square footage isn't the only factor. Removing and reinstalling trim, moving furniture, making repairs, choosing a stain color, and the layout of the home can all affect the schedule.

Drying time is also important! Each step of the finishing process needs adequate time to dry. Projects around 1,000 square feet or less typically take 4–5 days, while larger or more complicated projects may extend into a second week. Here are some before, during and after's.

A hardwood transformation in O’Fallon!

We sanded and refinished these 3 1/4" red oak floors, bringing them back to bare wood before applying a 50/50 mix of Jacobean and Medium Brown. We finished them with Berger Seidle Ceramic Star finish.

The new color brings out so much of the natural grain and character in the red oak while giving the entire home an updated look.

Loyd has been with Luminous Flooring for two years and came to us with no prior flooring experience. In a short amount of time, he’s learned the craft of sanding and has become a vital part of our team.

His hard work shows in the consistently high-quality results he produces has made him vital, and we’re glad to have him as part of the Luminous crew!

We shared the finished result from this home in our last post, but the restoration behind it deserves its own spotlight.

This home was built in the 1920s or 1930s and still has its original hardwood flooring. However, the wood in the closet area was either missing or too damaged to reuse. True hardwood restoration can be difficult to find in our area, but it’s something our team is proud to offer.

For this repair, we had flooring from the same time period in our warehouse, giving us an exact match to the original wood. Once the repair was complete, we sanded and finished the entire floor together, then protected it with three coats of premium water-based finish.

Keeping the character of a nearly 100-year-old home while giving its original floors new life—that’s what restoration is all about.

These before and after photos show just how much new flooring can change a space!
For this St. Louis project, our crew sanded and finished the 2" Select White Oak with a premium Berger Seidle water-based finish, bringing out the wood’s natural color and grain. We also installed Casabella AquaProof laminate in other areas of the home for a fresh, updated look throughout.
It’s always satisfying to see the floors come together after all the hard work!

It’s amazing what a good sand and refinish can do! ✨

These 2-1/4” Select Red Oak floors in Clayton had been well loved, but the wood underneath still had so much life! After sanding everything down and applying a fresh oil-based finish, we were able to bring that natural warmth and character right back into them!

And the best part — this whole transformation only took 3 days! Sometimes something as simple as sanding and refinishing can make a huge difference in your home.
