I’m so happy with how practical + adorable this custom hand built vanity turned out 🥰 I posted the whole reel about it yesterday, but I needed a bigger drawer for my kids to store stuff in the bathroom so I brought the existing vanity I had made for this sink to our downstairs bathroom + replaced it with this beautiful wood one with a drawer that fits under the sink. They’re two different examples of how to make a vanity around our two pedestal sinks, one with a countertop over the sink & one underneath to look like a floating bowl and I love them both. The beautiful custom stain (Minwax Rustic Beige + American) fits perfectly in our beige tile upstairs bathroom and the dark & light grey combo fits perfectly in our downstairs bathroom. Now guests also have more counter space & a shelf to store things when they visit. They can both be easily moved when I need to clean around them, but fit these tiny 1960’s bathrooms well too. The side by side photos are both bathrooms when we moved in to our house (9 years ago) to today & how much better they look and function for us!

You guys know I love a good scrap wood project so I used different types of materials to make two different organizers. I used 1/2in particleboard + plywood that I painted black to make a little Xbox stand for our movie room, just to get it off the floor, make it look more intentional & hide the controllers underneath. Then I used 3/4in project wood that I painted white to make a drawer divider for our glass containers we use all the time to store things. The lids were always falling all over the drawer so it was so hard to close all the time. I didn’t even attach the wood pieces together because I made them so snug I had to mallet hammer them in so they don’t move at all, but I can still remove them when I want. I just love using leftover materials to make practical things that make life that much easier.

The basement is all painted Milk Chocolate brown now 🍫🤎 I knew I wanted to paint around the movie room door trim & into the hallway, including the ceilings because they were all different colors + materials so I wanted them to blend better. I left the hall door trim & doors light so it doesn’t feel too dark even though it does fell darker, it also feels more connected to the whole basement now. I painted in between all the library shelves as well for the whole wall from the stairwell to the bathroom to all be the same color with just different textures in between. I love how this brown is light + dark enough to still feel bright in a basement, but also fit the moody pub vibe. One wall left to go & it’s almost exactly how I wanted the whole basement to feel!

I wanted to share a few more stills of this beautiful laundry folding table I finished last week. Someone I knew sent me this inspo photo (2nd one) & asked for it to be made the same but with square chunky legs instead of the decorative legs & all stained dark, so we did just that. The stain matches what’s in the space already + we gave her more shelf space to store things as well. I also saw that it was a year ago I finished this huge & beautiful shiplap fireplace wall for a friend who moved to CO to update it and it’s still one of my favorite transformations ever (we’ve even added custom wood shelves since then) 😍

Since I moved our basement around I took apart our old coffee table & refurbished it to sell, but now I’m thinking I want to keep it again because it came out so cute 🙈 It was originally the bottom part of the same shaped table we have in our family room, but I had taken it off so our dog could lie under the table (which he does all the time). It only had 3 legs before so it was always a little wobbly, so I pocket holed some 2x3’s to screw right into the top + added two decorative pieces to the two end legs as well to make it cuter. I painted them all in the Milk Chocolate brown & then cut up some flowers from our family room wallpaper to add to the top before sealing it all in Polycrylic sealant. Now it’s super sturdy, totally unique and I’m thinking it matches our basement look so well…

I wanted to share some stills of my finished basement wall in this beautiful Milk Chocolate brown color. I also wanted to talk about how much my walls have changed over the years when the functionality + my style change as well. This exact wall started as a sponged blue wall when we first bought our house, then I painted it a plain beige immediately, added a light green arch around the TV during Covid of course & then painted an art deco shape when it became our movie spot (before we had a movie room), which was a really cool look. I loved all the stages that it used to be, but now without a TV it’s become a more homey art feature wall instead (the painting is a family heirloom). It’s looked & worked great each phase, it’s just evolved with my own personal style + how we’ve used the space. Paint is such a fun & easy way to change the feel of a whole room that can easily be changed again with a new paint color in the future. Now on to painting the rest of the room too…

The laundry folding table I made for someone l know is attached + installed in this lovely rental suite! The wood matches all the shelves & colors in the space and fits perfectly. Now the tenant has places to put all her laundry things with the adjustable shelf, can store baskets underneath + can fold on the table. It’s so functional & beautiful since they walk into this space from the entrance and it’s a freestanding piece, so can easily be moved around whenever they need as well.

Since we moved a tv from a wall in our basement (& added a bigger one to our movie room), I knew I was going to have to redo it since the old green paint design was meant to go around the tv. I decided to just make it all one color + use that for the rest of the basement as well so I was deciding between a bright beige or more moody brown to tie into the dark wood pub feel on the other side of the room. Once I saw this Valspar color Milk Chocolate I knew it was the right amount of “dark”, but still light & warm enough for a basement. I decided to trim out the window + more of the wall so the two square designs on either side didn’t make the couch feel so off balance anymore. I used the cedar lath pieces I took down from the couch wall & just stated making connected rectangle patterns to make the wall look more interesting and connected. Then I caulked + painted it all to make it look like one design and it turned out so great! It definitely matches the English pub feel of the rest of the room & the color feels so cozy. I can’t wait to keep painting the rest of the basement to all match now 🤎

I finished this laundry folding table for a friend’s rental property by edge banding the plywood edges, sanding + staining it all in a beautiful Minwax® Ebony stain that’s like a lighter black with grey undertones. It matches the shelves they already have in that room, so it’ll all flow together & I sealed the top with a water based Polycrylic sealant. Now it looks like one solid piece with the cool chunky legs and adjustable shelf in the cubby space to hold whatever they need in their laundry room. I still need to attach it all together in their home to make sure it’s all level & secure so I’ll be doing that soon!
