If you've picked up one of our ceramic owls at the studio or a craft fair, this one's for you.

The Adventuring Owls are getting a children's book. The first one takes the owls backcountry camping in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with real park facts, ranger tips, and wildlife along the way. Kickstarter rewards include the book and ceramic owl companions made right here in the studio.

The campaign launches tomorrow! Hit "Notify me on launch" to help support the campaign before it goes live. The more followers I have before it launches the more likely this is to trend on Kickstarter

Mona Illustration is illustrating the book! So thrilled to be working with Monika.

We’re excited to offer this experience again starting June 1st, giving you another chance to jump in and learn the wheel from the very beginning.

If you missed the first session, this is the perfect time to join in.

There’s something special about watching clay take shape in your hands, learning the rhythm of the wheel, finding your center, and creating something from the ground up.

This beginner wheel throwing class is designed to guide you through the full process, from raw clay to finished pottery. You’ll learn the fundamentals of throwing, trimming, glazing, and building confidence at the wheel, all in a supportive small-class environment.

Because classes are intentionally capped at just 6 students, there’s plenty of one-on-one guidance and time to really enjoy the process.

📅 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭 – 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬
👐 Only 4 spots left

Whether you’re brand new to pottery or finally ready to try the wheel, this is a beautiful place to begin.

✨ 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀
These little star magnets started as a playful moment in the studio, and honestly, that kind of experimenting is such an important part of creating.

When you’re balancing gallery work, teaching, custom orders, and pieces heading to shops across the country, making space to play keeps the creativity fresh. Sometimes the smallest projects spark the biggest ideas.

That same spirit carries into classes at Plays in Mud. Learning pottery is not just about technique, it’s about giving yourself room to explore, try, and create something unexpected.

Keeping classes intentionally small, with a maximum of 6 students, allows for real guidance, hands-on support, and the freedom to experiment without feeling rushed. It creates space to learn the basics while still making something that feels like your own.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗼𝘁

These teapots are a work in progress.

They’ve been formed, painted in black underglaze, and set aside to dry before the next step.

Underglaze is a colored slip applied to the surface of the clay before firing. It allows for more control in design and creates that rich, matte base before a final glaze is added.

And then there are the real moments in the studio…
A small disk ended up stuck to the surface, not exactly part of the plan, and it needed to be worked loose without damaging the piece.

Learning to pivot when something unexpected happens is part of the process. Not just making, but adjusting, learning, and working through it in real time. Those shifts often lead right back to a successful piece.

👐 Let’s create together and experience the process for yourself.
