Complementary Color - Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors (example: red and green). The high contrast of complementary colors creates a vibrant look especially when used at full saturation. Here we see the complementary colors of blue and yellow used, however, the shades of navy and caramel calm down the stark contrast. ⁠

Shibori dates back to 8th century Japan. Fabric was bound, stitched, folded, twisted, or compressed and dyed traditionally with indigo. Each method results in very different patterns. There are many variations on Shibori depending on the technique used and the characteristics of the cloth being dyed. These techniques can be used in conjunction with one another to achieve more elaborate results.
