To restore or not to restore that is the question?
Here are some of the oldest rugs I have cleaned and restored.
I get asked all the time.Does restoring or repairing a rug hurt it's value???????
My answer is when restoring a early rug I always try to duplicate the rugs ingredients . I sort of compare rgs wth food or old receipis. So many wonderfful receipis and so many wonderful rugs.
1-.Wools or the texture of silk to the feel of food to the mouth.
2-Appearance of the special dinner made to the fresh vegetable dyes colors in rugs to the mouth watering colors of the vegetables or trimmings surrounding the plate,
3-Creativity of food to the interesting early designs of rugs.
4-Pleasure or happiness after eating a great meal to the pleasure and satisfaction your favorite rugs or textiles give you.
I alway say too much or over restoring anything is not good.
Just enough to give the rug a better appearance and not to get worse with use.
Most of the rugs I have restored I was asked by my customer to do what I feel the rug needs. Sounds like me when I go to my favorite restaurant and ask the chef to surprise me creating a meal knowing I would enjoy.
Would love to hear opinions To Restore or not to Restore?
One more thought if the Mona Lisa was never restored could it be Davinci with a wig???
