As a teenager in the late 90s & early 2000s, I was obsessed with high fashion & hoarded countless copies of Vogue, W, Bazaar, Nylon, Dazed, all of which were smuggled up to my room because my dad was (is) really religious & didn’t approve. I can still remember the first Tim Walker shoot I saw in Vogue & it was love at first sight; he’s been an inspiration ever since. •

So a four year old’s birthday might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you look at this arrangement, but why the hell not? I had a *very* brief moment when shopping for this order, where I wondered what kind of flowers are appropriate for a small child, & after a split second looking at daisies & primary colors, I decided that children’s flowers should just be the most beautiful you can imagine. No easy to define colors or simple shapes, but instead the most interesting & lovely blooms I could find. As a kid I made messes & crashed around, but I also sat for long periods absorbed by picture books or moss or a tiny purple w**d. I loved poring over pages from Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies or the water babies from Peter Pan. Part of the magic of childhood is that there’s so much you’ve never seen before & everything is new & I wanted to give this little birthday girl a little glimpse what all is out here in the world to see.
