At CD+M, we are fortunate to have so many talented and passionate designers on our team, and are always keeping an eye out for young designers that have an interest in the study of light. To that end, we recently asked one of our Associates in the Dubai Studio, Ratnakumari, to share a bit of her thoughts on the topic

1). What drew you to want to be a lighting designer?

"I think it was my exploration of various media technologies, which all share a common intersection : light. It never fails to inspire me. My curiosity makes me ask “what more can I do?" as I believe that lighting can fundamentally change the perspective of how we experience a space / environment."

2). What advice would you have for a young person interested in working in this market?

"Seek inspiration but do not imitate, follow your instincts with confidence and learn, consistently and diligently."

3). What do you do most enjoy doing when you're not at the office?

"Quality time with my family, cooking and an evening drive to witness the starry skies."

We’re excited to announce that our work on DIFC Gate Avenue Dubai alongside RMJM, has been nominated by Commercial Interior Design to their shortlist for Best Use of Lighting in Interior Design. As well, CD+M contributed to 2 other stunning projects shortlisted including the Waldorf Astoria, Kuwait, nominated LW Design for Interior Design : Hotel and the Fairmont Tazi Palace Hotel, nominated OBMI for Best Architectural Project.
