This week, we’re highlighting Rebecca Anderson, Associate Principal and Interior Designer, who has been part of RJTR for 12 years.
Rebecca played an important role in the interior design of the Marcus Center for Advanced Rehabilitation at Shepherd Center, where the team’s approach was shaped by Shepherd’s mission of helping people regain independence.
For Rebecca and RJTR, that meant thinking beyond how the spaces looked to how they could actively support recovery, confidence and innovation.
One of the spaces she is especially proud of is the wheelchair obstacle course created on the top floor for the seating clinic. The course simulates everyday obstacles, so patients can test and adjust their wheelchairs in a realistic environment—an example of how thoughtful design can directly support someone’s daily life.
Rebecca also brought a different perspective to the project through her experience in hospitality, commercial, and sports performance design.
“Healthcare design doesn’t have to feel cold or clinical. It can be highly functional while still offering the warmth and comfort of hospitality.”
That perspective is reflected throughout the Marcus Center: technically complex healthcare environments that feel welcoming, comfortable, and human.
Rebecca says, “I am so proud of the entire project and to have been able to take part on something that will help people regain their independence in whatever way possible and create an environment that promotes recovery while inspiring innovation simultaneously.”
