MY FRIENDS THOUGHT I WAS EXAGGERATING until I showed them this photo and told them the current total is pushing almost $20K already. 😂 The room still looks like a giant unfinished maze with footprints in drywall dust and random tools everywhere, but somehow every step of the process costs thousands. “Custom ceiling work.” “Additional labor.” “Extra mudding for angles.” “Electrical adjustments.” I swear contractors have invented 47 new ways to say “this will cost more than expected.” The craziest part is people online keep saying this is actually CHEAP for an attic conversion now. CHEAP?? Am I losing my mind or are renovation prices completely detached from reality now??

Or if you went with something completely different what would it be? i'm going to do all by myself using instructions I found on the Tedooo app so there's no going back (sounds crazy, i know, but the community there will help me nail it as they always do). I honestly don’t know if I’m overreacting but we just got billed $9,800 for this fireplace framing and vent setup and I keep staring at it trying to justify the number. It’s a clean build, tall ceiling, vent pipe straight up, framed out nice… but almost ten grand?? They said the height, venting, materials, and labor all add up fast, especially tying into the roof, but it still feels like a huge number for something that isn’t even finished yet. No stone, no mantle, just structure. Is this actually normal pricing now or would you be questioning this too??

I honestly don’t know if I’m overreacting but we just got hit with a $36,000 bill for drywall and finishing in this space and I’m standing here like… HOW does it add up this fast?? I get it — high ceilings, scaffolding, tons of angles, detail work everywhere — but it still feels like a massive number when you’re looking at mud, tape, and sanding. They said this is “labor heavy” and working at height slows everything down, which I understand… but does this actually sound normal to anyone else??

So this is the room right now — drywall up, seams taped, a couple buckets of mud sitting there, and literally a small pile of scraps on the floor… nothing fancy, no crazy design. I just got quoted $2,800 to finish this ONE room (mud, sand, ready for paint). I stood there staring at it thinking there’s no way this small space is pushing almost 3K already. I honestly don’t know if I’m overreacting or if this is just how prices are now. Would you pay that??

Got the slab poured but something’s not adding up…

They told me 4 yards would cover it, but I only got about 250 sq ft out of it. Ended up having to order another single yard—and that extra load cost me $600 😬

Pad measures 12'9" x 23'9", and from what I’m seeing here, it just doesn’t look like 4 yards was actually delivered.

Am I missing something, or does this seem off to you guys? Is this something I can even dispute?
