Update of latest progress on the Dublin project. I railroaded this grass cloth paper, and it completely changed the look of both the space and the paper. I will be doing this again. Palace size oriental for lobby.

Late posting this.
Was asked to do an interpretation of the Johnston Family Summer Dining Room at Hay House. The inspiration was Allcotts "Little Women" opening with the Christmas breakfast. A combination of personal, long-term loan pieces, HH attic treasures, artifacts and greenery. The reviews were positive.

"It must be fun working on your own house." I hear this too often. It is, in fact, plain hard work and no fun at all. A busmans holiday. Rant over. Dining Room floor is coming along slowly because its all hand work. My method is non invasive but takes a full seven calendar days. Im only 1/3 complete and exhausted. 80% will be covered by a palace size rug anyway.

Well, I like it. It certainly took long enough.
These border pieces were taken from a roll of vintage wallpaper. To create this custom look, I cut paper for almost a week. The border is made up of SIX different stripes from one roll. The effect is meant to be subtle and very English country house. I think it worked. Its just enough to showcase the trim but not so much as to take away from the art. Which is what people want to see, anyway. The crisis was I ran out of the tiniest border piece. My buddy Walter Reynolds saved the day by doing something computer-ish allowing me too finish.*side note* The cloth tape on the custom blinds was color matched to the trim paint. I wasn't aware you could even get tape anymore. A game changer. Thanks, Denise Wright!

Spongey porch patch, repaired again. There is a right/wrong way to repair porch floors. Had to do a little of both here. Sub floor taken from attic lumber treasure trove in eaves. Flooring harvested from old laundry area. Everything is reclaimed or milled to match existing.

Finally, Kitchen floor installed. Original ( & very talented) installer punked out on my Kitchen. Took weeks to find a team not afraid of the precision cuts & understood concept. Probably the most professional/talented flooring team I've worked with in my career. Colors & concept were inspired/copied from an Alabama house. There I learned about the genius of lesser background field tiles & full border wrap. Once settled & relaxed for 48 hours, it will receive several coats of wax.

The team is still tweaking this little house on CSH campus. Once we completed new Greek revival cottage facade, there were still issues plaguing it. Years of abandonment, exposure, thieves/vandals stripping electrical wiring & plumbing had begun to take a toll.
Due to age, structure complexity & complete lack of available skilled labor in Baldwin Co., no one would touch it. Ballpark estimates/strategies were laughable. So, the team rolled up their sleeves & did it themselves. They did it all. Correctly. With an HP bent where applicable. It can be done. I dont understand the concept of a paycheck player. If good work is done @ a good price, you will never be without work.
It's very satisfying to see this house glowing @ night after so many years in the dark. And, to work w/a team who cares & has the ability to realize all of my concepts & most of my deadlines. Thank you, brothers!

Charming brass porch light restored for friends and customers down the street. The acid etched, scallop on the shade was a nice surprise. I did not lacquer it and prefer it to patina out naturally.
