House On A Sugar Hill

House On A Sugar Hill Creating a cheerful boho inspired home on a budget. Anthro inspired, pink and mustard for life (or until I get bored, whichever comes first).

Has it been 9 months already?
After our wedding in June 2025, we moved my family from Sugar Hill to Atlanta and began the beautiful, blending process of becoming a family of ten.

When people ask how it’s going, my answer is always the same:
“No one could possibly deserve this. It’s too good. A blessing so great I couldn’t have imagined it.”

I think back to the painful years of my divorce and working through the overwhelming baggage that followed. Many of you were there for that! During that season, I created a playlist on my phone entitled 2021/2022 filled with songs I clung to in the worst moments. Their lyrics were like armor, strengthening my hope that our family would one day be restored and rebuilt into something beautiful.

The first song on that playlist begins like this:

“Blessed are those who wait on the Lord, for they will be filled. Watch the way He rebuilds.
Blessed are those whose hearts have been broken,
They will be hemmed better than when they began.
Blessed are those still caught in a cycle,
His name shatters them all. They’ll pay back sevenfold.
Blessed are those whose home life is hurting.
Settle, take a deep breath.
He gives back innocence.
You’ll see.
You’ll see.
This is just the beginning.”

I clung to those words like a lifeline, through chaos, through fear, through moments that demanded more than I had to give. I repeated them long before I saw any evidence they would come true.

And it turns out they weren’t just words. They were promise. Truer than I could have imagined when I first whispered them into the air with trembling faith.
Here I am. Living it. Watching my family heal, grow, and thrive.

To anyone in the middle of the storm, keep choosing faith and faithfulness, and watch what God does with it! He does not disappoint. He is always working towards redemption. You’ll see!

I stepped away from social media while we blended, wanting to soak in the goodness without distraction. But I have some fun projects in the works, and of course I have to share. Swipe to the end for a sneak peak!

🎶Hello from the other side 🎶 (Adele’s voice keeps playing through my head as I write this.)

Hello from the other side! We are 6 weeks into married bliss and settling in as a family of 10 (WHAT?!!). It has been SO FUN! There have been some adjustments, and new normals to settle into of course, but man, we feel crazy blessed.

Angelo and I took the long road with our relationship, working diligently on the front end to build a solid foundation of trust, of being fully known, and to delicately walk our children through this season. We’ve taken our time. We’ve taken years.
To be here now, fully together at long last, and experiences the fruit of that intentionality is surreal. We are so incredibly happy.

So what’s next?
Now that my House on Sugar Hill has sold and we are ‘mostly’ unpacked over here, I’m getting ready to share with you how we will be making this house our together home, and what life practically looks like navigating a family of this size. I’ll also at times be sharing with you the process I have gone through to heal from betrayal into finally being able to fully trust again.

This is going to be fun!

But first things first, a couple house keeping items, and today it’s our pantry overall. I’ve been sifting through Amazon’s organization section this week. It’s going to take some serious magic to get this space functioning.
Come join me in stories and let’s hang out!

Farewell my house on a hill. I could write a novel to you and perhaps someday I will. Thank you for the serendipitous spark you sent me the moment we first met. Thank you for holding my children close and safe between your walls, and for shaking with laughter as you hosted the ones I love. Thank you for the way you held me on during the nights that I wept, and the secrets you kept when I needed to be alone and silent.
I am beyond grateful for the provision and security you established and the opportunities that you granted.
As we now move on to our next adventure, and as you bless your next family, just know, you will always be my favorite work of art.

One month ago we threw a (quasi) surprise wedding in Bordeaux France, and, surrounded by our favorite people in the world, I married my best friend! I could write an entire chapter on how beautiful and redemptive this story is. I am still in awe of how God takes the broken pieces of our lives and writes a story more incredible than we could have ever imagined! It’s been a surreal month, blending our families and settling into our new normal all together under one roof. I am so grateful!
Oh, and if you didn’t know - Ain’t no party like a French Chateau party! For 36 hours we got to rock with the best people on the planet, making memories that will last a lifetime! From a French Renaissance Funk costume party, karaoke in the speakeasy basement, an on site pop up tattoo artist, and 5am poker nights, I it was a TIME! think we are all still a little buzzed on our French Fever dream! To all of you who made the great effort to celebrate with us in France, we are so beyond grateful you were there! WE LOVE YOU!!!

BEFORE and AFTER!
If I were to rate which areas of a home dates its style the most, I would place the stairway high on that list.
When we first moved into our older home, our stairway was the area that bothered me the most. It was the first view that greeted guests as they were welcomed into our home, setting the tone for the feel of the house - And that tone was dingy, and dirty, and dated. Over the years I did my best to update them without fully replacing the railings and stairs, but after 10 years, I am so excited to share that I finally bit the bullet and had everything replaced. It was so worth it! Replacing the stairs and railings have completely transformed my house. A big shout out to Drew and his team at Sheer Renovations for making these stairs a reality.
I ordered stair parts which is part of family of building product companies. Crown Heritage stair parts are available in most places where building materials are sold. I went with a sleek and modern look which is the perfect accent to the rest of my home. I couldn’t love them more, and am sharing more details in my stories, so come check them out! For a link to stair parts, comment STAIRS and I’ll send you a link in your inbox!

I’m in my emotional era as I get ready to say goodbye to this house. I knew this house was magic the moment I laid eyes on it. I remember turning the curve of the road and looking up at my house on a sugar hill for the first time. In an instant I knew multiple things at once; I know this would be my home, I knew I would create a business out of this home, and I knew the home would be part of that business. How I knew this all in an instant, I don’t know, but all of those things proved to be true.

SO MUCH LIFE has happened in this home. New beginnings, tragic endings, and a million moments in between. I raised all of my kids in this home, but I also grew up here too in many ways. This home will always hold a special place in my heart.

I’m sharing a few of my favorite makeovers and nostalgia moments from our time here. Swipe to the end to see a picture from the day we toured the house while it was still on the market, the day I knew the house was ours. Apparently my kids knew it as well. 😍

Someone needs to hear this!

Last year approximately 19.1% of Americans were diagnosed with anxiety. That’s 51 million adults.

If you have fought this battle you know how anxiety can steal from your life. I’m sharing my story because I want you to know that there is hope, genuine hope, for ultimate healing!

I don’t know what your path will look like, and I’m sure in ways different than mine, but this is your sign to not throw in the towel! You don’t have to resign to a life gripped by anxiety. Take that next step. Pick up the phone and call a therapist or spiritual advisor. Order a book on anxiety and commit to reading it this month. I’ve listed a few of the books that have helped me in the comments below!
Incremental healing, that’s what it takes. But the work is worth it!

We’re getting MARRIED (😱❤️❤️) & What’s next!

Thank you so much for sharing in our joy with all of your kind messages about our announcement!
Angelo and I are over the moon and so excited to begin our lives together. We will be getting married in June, and we have a LOT to do between now and then. As well as planning a wedding, I will be selling my House on a Sugar Hill, and preparing Angelo’s house to fit the whole crew (we have 8 children between the both of us).
It’s going to be a lot of work but we are so excited to get started and I can’t wait to take you along with us as we blend our families and prepare for two to become one!
135 days, let’s do this!!

House On A Sugar Hill

Welcome friend! My name is Jodi, I’m the gal behind the Blog House On A Sugar Hill where I love to share all things home and family related.

I don’t believe for a second that the greatest things in life are what we own or how we look. It’s my goal here to let you know that true JOY is right in front of you, it’s all about how you live and love, no matter your income, status, or how beautiful and clean your house is (case in point, exam this shot my sweet Hubby took for me.. we MAYBE forgot to pick up the house before hand!)

Let’s learn to live better and love better together!

Want in on the conversations? Join me over at www.houseonasugarhill.com and together let’s make this world a more better place, but hopefully in a healthy way!
