Six months ago, we took a family trip to the beach we visited in the summers for most of our childhood. It was the first time we had returned since my mom’s passing. Four weeks ago today, my precious sister joined our mom in heaven. Having walked the road of grief before, we know it is one of hills and valleys, one that can hold both complete joy and deep sadness.
During this season of life in which we have faced many challenges as a family, my mantra has become: “in this moment”. It has helped me to get through by focusing on the good (in this moment, I feel the love of so many from the comments on my last post) and by also encouraging me when things are hard (in this moment, I feel overwhelmed with grief, but I know from experience that moments of joy will occur today as well). This mantra has helped me to live in the moment instead of worrying about the future, to focus on those here with me now, to notice the little things that are actually the big things in life.
Thank you to all who have loved and supported us, not just this past month, but in the years prior, and who continue to support us as we navigate our new normal and as my dad continues his own cancer treatment. Our community, both in person and online, is a blessing we don’t take for granted, and we would not be able to get through these hard times without you. Much love and gratitude from our family to yours. 🩷
