My grandmother, Ola Mae “Book” Jackson, passed away in 1999. She was a strong, five-foot-tall single mother who, despite being illiterate, managed to buy her own home and raise three children—leaving a lasting impact on my life. She had an unshakable belief in the power of education.
For years, I dreamed of starting something in her honor, but late last year, my daughter Imana ( ) decided she’d heard me talk about it long enough—so she took action. She launched an organization in my grandmother’s name to carry on her legacy.
This Saturday, Imana will host her very first book drive. Check out the flyer above for details, and scan the QR code to learn more about the mission and vision behind the foundation. Please drop off new or gently used books between 2 and 4.
