Tagged out this evening on public land. We started out this evening around 6 walking a river bottom. Calling every 100 or so yards switching between a wing bone, slate, to a mouth call. About 2.5 miles in and around 7:40 we finally struck one up on the hill. I figured he was headed to roost so we made a quick move up a steep hill to get on his level or slightly above. There were no good cover trees to sit by it was kinda open so I put Chesney at the best one I could find and I headed up hill about 35 yards to hopefully call him right to her. I started scratching and called as soon as I sat down. Less than a minute I heard him coming. He was right in front of Chesney maybe 20 yards but there were some rocks blocking his beard for her so she didn't shoot, afraid it was a jake. All of a sudden he started puttin and went to her right down the hill out of view. I started calling on my mouth call and scratching. He kept walking to the right and ended up right down my gun barrel about 45-50 yards. I had a small opening and took the shot. He started flopping and took off down the hill so I jumped up and took off after him but he only went about 40 yards and was done. 9 1/2 inch beard 7/8 spurs

I was easing down an old fire break soft yelping on a slate call. Got to a small knoll and seen fresh scratching 20 yards away so I decided to call. As soon as I started yelping he fired off not 50 yards away so I instantly ducked and backed up to the nearest tree with cover. Did a little scratching and a few more yelps then got ready. About 5 mins later he popped up over the knoll spittin and drummin. When he stepped out from behind a big pine tree 25 yards away I seen he was a good long beard so I sent some #5's his way. 10 inch beard 1 inch spurs.
