As we step into year five at Canvas & Clay, I’ve been reflecting on the journey the Lord has carried us through. The first four years have been marked by growth, stretching, learning, and refinement. Scripture tells us the Lord is like a refiner’s fire, purifying us like silver until we reflect His image (Malachi 3:2–3). Refining is purposeful- it removes what does not belong so what remains can endure. Yet fire also has the power to consume, and if I’m honest, there were seasons where I allowed the fire to overwhelm me instead of fully surrendering the weight to Him.
The responsibility, the pressure to steward this work well, and the desire to honor both people and purpose were not always easy to carry and too often I tried to carry them on my own. Yet because of His mercy and grace, I am overwhelmingly grateful for the Lord’s faithfulness through it all- for His provision, for the clients who trusted us, and for the team who has faithfully stood beside me.
Through every season, God has reminded me of this truth: He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). And just a few verses later, we are encouraged to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 2:1). I am learning that true strength is not found in striving harder, but in leaning more fully into His grace through surrender and obedience.
As we enter year five, a number often associated with grace, my prayer is that we would be faithful stewards of all the Lord has entrusted to us, receiving His grace with humility and extending it generously to others. Grace refines without destroying, heals without minimizing truth, and restores what hardship exposes. Jesus does not ask us to come to Him all cleaned up. He invites us to come just as we are- and in His loving kindness, He is the One who does the refining.
The greatest gift ahead is not success, recognition, or growth, but the grace we have been given in Christ Jesus. It is that grace that steadies us, sustains us, and shapes how we move forward. Thank you for being a part of our story. We step into year five with gratitude for the past, grace for what lies ahead, and hope anchored in Him. -AC
