Here's a beautiful piece of family history that has been preserved for everyone to enjoy.

The necklace belonged to the customer's great grandmother who received it from her mother, who in turn was gifted it from her Godmother, the Dowager Countess of Castle Stuart in Rome, April 1880!!

I just love how she wanted to include the portrait where she is wearing the necklace to pull the whole story together.

I used a couple of stitches to hold the necklace in place, but wanted to let the bottom bits dangle freely. The portrait in its original frame has a new linen mat, but the brass oval was part of it and just clips on the inside of the bevel. They should make those again! The frame is slightly recessed in the mat and the inside edges are shadowboxed to accommodate everything.

Topped with Museum glass, it is ready to be oohed and ahhed over for years to come!

Off I go to the Waldheim on lovely Big Moose Lake for my annual end-of-summer week helping out with the family business! This year I'll be cleaning cottages and working in the kitchen rather than waiting tables. This will give me some free time to figure out and finalize a whole bunch of back end of the framing biz stuff that I've been putting off!🤪

I'll be out of the shop the week of August 24-28. Hope to see you on the other side!

Here's a cute, little fly fisherman letter opener!

The customer wanted it mounted and framed so it could be leaned against the wall on the shelf. A couple of stitches to attach it to the mat and there you go!

We can frame just about anything. What interesting thing would you like framed?!

I'll be heading out soon for a long weekend getaway with some friends. The Gallery will be closed Friday afternoon the 7th and Monday the 10th, then back to business as usual. I hope you have a fun weekend too and we'll see you next week!
