Our long‑time followers know our affinity for military animals - whether a unit mascot or a working dog. So when the National Coast Guard Museum exhibit plan called for a K9 and handler, this was the tableau I was most excited to work on.

ME1 Whitaker and K9 Ultra have a demanding mission set and a travel schedule to match, yet every time I reached out with a question, they were right there with answers, photos, and whatever we needed to keep the project moving. When some of the factors started lining up later in the planning process, I contacted ME1 to see if they could join us during the winter months for a meeting with the various project teams. I pitched the idea up the chain, and the rest is history, as the saying goes.

There’s still a lot of work ahead as building construction continues and the exhibits progress, but once everything comes together, this museum is going to be one outstanding place to visit!

After 20 years in the Coast Guard, this still remains one of the coolest things I’ve ever been part of. I’m looking forward to opening day and being able to share even more about this amazing experience.
