One of the biggest bathroom lighting misconceptions we hear? That your sconces are supposed to do all the work.

Pattern mixing works best when there’s one thing grounding the room and in this case, it was the art.

The client had an incredible collection, so before we selected a single fabric or rug, I figured out which pieces were going where. Once these paintings landed in the dining room, the direction became really clear: pull out the blue, layer in contrast, and let everything else support the artwork instead of compete with it.

The rug gave us that rich tonal blue moment, while the black table and existing chairs tied back to the darker details in the paintings (including the little black dog I loved so much). Then we brought in the chair fabric - a fun organic geometric that feels modern without taking over the room.

My favorite pattern combinations usually have a balance of something traditional, something graphic, and one consistent color story holding it all together. ✨

Every project has a moment where everyone collectively goes, “Oh no.” 😅

Sometimes it’s a small hiccup. Sometimes it’s opening up a wall and finding a much bigger conversation waiting behind it.

The reality is, surprises are part of this business — especially when you work on older homes as much as I do. The goal isn’t avoiding every single issue. It’s knowing how to navigate them, keep the client informed, and move the project forward without losing momentum.

What I’m lovin’ lately: beach edition ☀️

A really good striped towel, oversized sunnies, a beach bag that somehow fits everything, SPF I actually want to wear, colorful little extras that make the day feel more fun… and anything that leans a little nostalgic.

I’m apparently very into playful stripes and happy colors this summer and honestly, I’m not fighting it.

Now excuse me while I reorganize my beach bag for the fifth time this week. 😆

Just presented the living room design for clients we recently completed a kitchen for and I love seeing the rest of the home start to reflect the same feeling and flow. ✨

The goal was a space that feels calm, layered, and quietly collected. Soft blues, warm woods, creamy linens, subtle pattern play, and a mix of textures that make the room feel refined but still completely livable.

We reworked the layout to feel more conversational and intentional, layering in pieces like the chaise, vintage bench, and leather recliner to give the room warmth and personality without feeling overdone.

The front door sets the tone for the entire home and for this project, we wanted it to feel timeless, warm, and full of character from the moment you walk up. ✨

We landed on a fully custom mahogany raised-panel door that feels traditional in all the right ways, while still making a statement. The scale, the detailing, the richness of the wood… every decision was intentional.

It’s details like this that make a home feel layered, thoughtful, and welcoming before you even step inside.

Same footprint. Completely different feeling. ✨

This kitchen in my studio started with low ceilings, bulky cabinetry, and a layout that felt heavy the second you walked in. We actually reworked the entire flow of the space — expanding the kitchen into what used to be the laundry room, then relocating the laundry/mudroom to the back entrance. Basically, we flipped the spaces and opened everything up.

Opening up the range wall, simplifying the lines, bringing in warmth through wood and brass, and letting the natural light finally do its thing completely changed how the space functions and feels.

One of my favorite reminders that good design isn’t always about adding more… sometimes it’s about removing the things weighing a space down.

The best spaces are the ones that feel like they’ve been gathered over time.

A mix of texture, personality, meaningful pieces, and details that make a home feel uniquely yours. Nothing overly perfect — just layered, lived-in, and full of character.

This is the kind of design we’ll always come back to. ✨

Lighting can completely change how a room feels and most spaces don’t need more light… they need the right mix of it. 💡

The easiest way to think about it? Every room should have layers.

✨Overhead lighting for overall glow and a decorative moment.
✨Sconces and ambient lighting for warmth and mood.
✨And lamps for the softer, lived-in task lighting that makes a space actually feel cozy.

Even recessed lighting has its place - not necessarily for the vibe, but for the moments you need to truly see the room (looking at you, cleaning day). The key is putting everything on dimmers so the space can shift with how you’re using it.

Save this for the next time a room feels “off” and you can’t figure out why.
