Wow, we're in the brighter side of winter now, and looking back, I can't believe it. I stopped bringing my phone outside with me because of the rain last season, and so much changed happened since our last photo.
We have two 24'x10'x7.5' greenhouses now. Each of them encompasses 2 of our garden rows. They're covered with plastic, and roughly supported. The first hard freeze came about 2 months early this year, and we lost time to build and secure before it got too wet and too cold to properly support it. Then the weather came.
We had everything growing, with the first harvest about a week away when on December 23rd, the freezing rain storm came. It was good overnight, but temps dove to -11*F and we lost all of it on Christmas Eve. I was so devastated by it that I couldn't even bring myself to post about this until now. All 56 corn plants, 5 Sunflower, peas, lettuce, beans, watermelon, pumpkins , squash...I just can't. It was all gone.
So what did I do? I, a first year plant mother for almost a year, started planting her seeds a month early this year, and bam! I'm so ready for a redo. 😂 I have over 300 seedlings, with more that haven't even germinated yet. And I'm not near done. I haven't planted half our greens, or any herbs. And I have a whole other 26'x13' area that will be dedicated to purely medicinal and culinary herbs! Not to mention all of our 5 gallon buckets!
But wait there's more...
But we went into the large greenhouses yesterday, and we still have carrots, turnips, collard greens, garlic, and onions growing! And OMG so many strawberries plants all came back!! So got to start prepping the greenhouses for our Spring Plantathon! Lol
Man I love this, and I can't wait to see what this new season brings!
