ENGLISH IVY:
🌿 🚫🌲‼️

English ivy (Hedera helix) is a destructive invasive w**d in Oregon forests that smothers the forest floor and kills mature trees.

🌲🥺 Why English Ivy Harms Oregon Forests:

• Ecological Deserts: It forms dense ground-level monocultures that block sunlight and rob water and nutrients from native understory plants.

• Tree Damage: Vines climb high up tree trunks into the canopy, competing for resources and adding heavy weight that increases wind drag, causing trees to blow down.

• Rapid Spread: Birds eat the mature plant's berries and spread the seeds far into untouched forest interiors.

• Legal Status: The Oregon Department of Agriculture classifies English ivy as a noxious w**d, making it illegal to import, sell, or propagate in the state.

How to Control and Remove It:

• Cut Climbing Vines: Slice vines around tree trunks at shoulder and ankle height, then strip the middle section away without harming the bark. Leave the high vines to wither on their own.
