I got a new Turkish spindle and it spins so fast that I’m actually able to spin a thread sized single! When I ply it, it’ll probably end up lace weight. I’d like to be able to spin a 3 ply that’s like sewing thread, but I’ll probably have to make that on my wheel. Maybe not though because this Turkish spindle is soo much faster than any of my other hand spindles! Oh and I got this spindle from Etsy. It’s hand made and I just love it! Anniversary gift. 9 years he’s been stuck with me! How’d I get so lucky ?!

The lid for my jar came tonight, as well as the “spring weight”. The lid has an airlock that you add water to. It lets fermentation gasses out but nothing can get in! The spring was an interesting find. It’s made by Ball (the canning jar company) and is designed to press down on the veggies to keep them under the brine. Just make sure your lid is screwed on tight, it’s a really strong spring! It’s made for smaller jars, so some of my veggies still floated up a bit. I think it’ll be okay. Thanks again to for sharing your recipe! I can’t wait have my very own Sichuan pickled veggies!

Made Sichuan pickled veggies today using a recipe from I ordered a fermentation lid for the jar that should be here tomorrow, so for now I have a ziplock bag of water on top to keep the veggies submerged, and plastic wrap on top to keep it clean! I used pink sea salt, so my brine is a little pink, but other than that it’s looking great! She used cabbage in her jar but I decided to try Brussels sprouts instead. So cute!

I followed Gordon Ramsay’s recipe for Yorkshire puddings but used a popover tin inside a baking dish to catch and drips. Using that popover tin instead of a muffin tin (like Gordon) made a huge difference! Literally and figuratively!

I got some questions about Nalbinding. Some call it ”Viking knitting”, but it's actually a precursor to knitting. You use a single needle (mine is carved from horn and most were made of horn or bone) and wool to create the ”fabric”. Once the piece is finished, it's hand-washed to lightly felt it. This creates a stronger and warmer fabric. I'm not an expert, just a hobbyist. There's more to it than I can type out in one post, but that's the basic idea.
