Working on something new. I am enjoying this new season of Heather's Hemmings. I still love crochet and carry a project with me for those long drives and doctor appointments. Sewing my own clothes for work and fun is so soothing and satisfying. Just like having yarn and a hook in my hands.

A new era for Heather's Hemmings-
2025 has been an interesting year for us. It started out with a huge need and a gofundme campaign that several of you contributed to. 2 more surgeries for my husband and me looking for a job. Needless to say being able to pattern test was nonexistent and my creative heart hurt.

Now fast forward to now. Husband is recovering well- he is driving!!! I found a new job working at a local historical park- Calico Ghost Town- at the Candle Shop. So every day I get to dress in 1880's period outfits- but they didn't have any on hand that fit me so........I dusted off my sewing machine and serger, got some material and a pattern and went to work.

So now I sew for me. I received a box of fabric from my mom that I have been able to transform into a dress, 4 tops, and 4 skirts.

While I don't get to crochet much anymore I am so very thankful for the relationships that this fiber community creates. Because of those relationships we received financial help when we needed it most and I am so very grateful.

Life is very different for us here at Heather's Hemmings. We are focusing on the sewing aspect of my creative side. Posts will be fewer than before but I am still here admiring all the new patterns and projects you all share.

Thank you to all the designers that chose me to be a part of their testing team. I enjoyed every pattern.

Here's to new adventures!

Here is our story-
Hi! We are Calvin and Heather Brown. In October 2023 Calvin had a fall at home that he suffered a head and back injury from. Since then Calvin has been unable to work and currently has exhausted our states short term disability. He also exhausted his employers medical leave and has been let go. He recently had major back and spine surgery and is recovering from that. The surgeon says it will take a year for full recovery.

Heather has been looking for a full time job and recently obtained a part time position.

Currently the only income we have is the pay from Heather’s part time job.

We got behind in our rent and currently owe $8220.00 or face potential eviction.

Also our monthly utilities are around $400.00 each month.

We did file for unemployment for Calvin but don’t qualify due to the fact that he stills has the health condition that he was on leave for.

We do qualify for food assistance (stamps) and receive those.

We are looking to sell his truck to be able to help pay the back rent in full. We need to pay the back 2 years of registration which is $2044.00 and smog test of around $60.00 to be able to sell it. We did get an offer for the truck that could potentially pay the whole back due rent amount- but the registration and smog test need to be current in order to sell.

So any way that you can help is greatly appreciated.

Recap-
Backdue rent $8220.00
Back registration and smog test for truck $2104.00
Monthly utilities is $400.00
Monthly rent is $1250.00

Thank you

Looking for a great Tunisian crochet shawlette pattern that is also timeless?💜

Well you are in luck because today in collaboration with Blue Sky Fibers released her pattern.

The shawlette is worked in one piece and uses both Tunisian crochet and traditional crochet. It takes around 300 yards of DK or even Sport weight yarn - whichever you meet gauge with- a 6mm Tunisian hook with a cord and stopper.

I used Yarn Bee High Lights in Spa and Ivory. I love how the yarn has a glimmer to it.

I accessorized mine with an angel pin I purchased many years ago to support our local domestic violence shelter. The artist used to design and make angel pins for local charities. Now she does paintings which are phenomenal so also check out her page too for non-crochet art.

For the shawlette pattern head to page and grab your copy today and see all the different versions the testers made.

The pattern by is live!!! This beautiful top is made using DK ( #3) yarn in a solid color or as many colors as you want and your 4mm hook. For my size large top I used Truboo Sparkle in Ice, Star and Night Sky for mine and jut love the drape and sparkle.💖

Even though it starts with a simple
Granny square there are lots of fun details in this pattern. I mean check out the hemline!! Those bobbles are so easy to make and add a bit of whimsy to the top.

This top is a great transitional piece if you are heading out of those hot summer months into the cooler Autumn days. Or you work in a cold office.🤣🤣

I also hear the has a discount available for a short time on this pattern so head over to her page and grab your copy today!

Oh and isn't my sweet Peaches adorable?🥰 She loves to pose for pictures and just had to be in this one.💜

We have a new addition to the Heather's Hemmings family! Welcome Rosemary or Rosie as we call her.

She is a one year old Great Dane puppy that loves to give kisses, has a massive tail wag, and follows us everywhere in the house. She is really pretty chill for being a puppy.

Peaches likes her but is still getting used to sharing us again.

has done it again!! Another fabulous reversible pattern and she also concludes her collection with the !!🩷💚

I love this pattern and had so much fun learning a new way to do the alpine stitch.

As with all of her patterns there are ways to customize to fit your body.

I hear she has a special discount for those who receive her newsletter.😉

I used Baby Bee Sweet Delight in Plum Pudding and Baby Sage. But you can use any sport weight ( #2) or light DK ( #3) that you are able to meet gauge with. And my version is a size 4 with no customizations.

And you will meed 12- 1" buttons if you want to be able to wear it on both sides.

I loved the Victorian garden feel my colors gave me so I had to have butterflies as my buttons and take pictures in a garden!😁

I encourage you to check out page and see all of the fabulous patterns she has.

I am so happy and excited for and her re-release of her pattern.🎉💜

I had so much fun working on my customized version- which the new version has instructions to help guide you. I used I love this yarn from Hobby Lobby in 3 of my favorite colors and a 5.5mm hook to create my version. And it only took me 3 days to make too!!!!

Gotta love a quick project that looks like it will take a long time to make.💜

This is a great piece to have for the cooler evenings or when you want your shoulders covered but still look fabulous!😉💜

I hear is having a sale on this pattern to celebrate the update so head over to her page and grab your copy today.
