The Still was designed as a quiet response to the pace and intensity of everyday life. Set against the San Sophia Range, the home opens deliberately toward breathtaking views while grounding itself into the hillside with stone walls and restrained architectural forms. The steep site and ski access shaped the experience of movement through the home, creating a carefully choreographed sequence from arrival to the panoramic views beyond.

KA DesignWorks is pleased to announce the promotion of Erik Hendrix to Senior Associate, effective today. This promotion recognizes Erik’s ten years with the firm and the increasingly important leadership role he has assumed within our studio.

Erik will continue in his role as Senior Project Architect, leading many of the firm’s most complex projects through design, documentation, and construction. As Senior Associate, he will also work closely with Ken to guide daily studio operations, strengthen firmwide standards and quality-control practices, mentor and support our staff, and help ensure the consistent level of service our clients and collaborators have come to expect from KA DesignWorks.

Over the past decade, Erik has earned the trust and respect of our clients, consultants, and team through his architectural expertise, thoughtful leadership, and commitment to each project’s success. His promotion formalizes the senior role he already plays within the firm and represents an important step in the continued growth and evolution of KA DesignWorks.

It’s Feature Home Friday! This week are featuring our 401 Carroll Residence. The home was designed around both gathering and retreat, with interior and exterior spaces working seamlessly together. The architecture balances expansive scale with restraint, using long horizontal forms, natural materials, and oversized glass to frame panoramic views of the Elk Mountain Range. Arrival happens through a quiet landscaped courtyard before the home gradually opens outward to the mountains, allowing the relationship between architecture and landscape to unfold intentionally. It’s Feature Home Friday! This week are featuring our Sruce Ridge Residence. Situated on a steep ski-in, ski-out site in Snowmass, this residence was designed to follow the natural contours of the slope, allowing the home to settle into the landscape while minimizing its overall scale. Stretching the structure along the hillside not only reduced its visual impact, but also maximized expansive views down the valley and across the surrounding mountains.
