When we started a U-pick flower farm, it didn’t take long to realize I needed some animal assistance. We decided on 6 ducks for pest control and 2 geese as their guardians but quickly fell in love with the geese. This spring we decided to hatch two Sebestapol Geese (curly feathers here we come!).

Here’s why geese are our farm favorites:
🪿They love their little pond set up right next to the flower field. That poopy water means water soluble nutrients that are the ideal organic fertilizer! 💩
🪿Their pine pellets for bedding can be sprinkled all around the flowers for extra mulch and fertilizer purposes too.
🪿 They devour the weeds I pull and love hanging right with me in the field as I work. They don’t dig/scratch up seedlings like chickens would.
🪿 They have quite the personalities. 😏Seriously ornery personalities at times but we love them for it.
🪿 I don’t need a stone porch goose statue & they even let us dress them up a bit 😂

Such a big fan of seasonal rhythms 🤩❤️ the fact that I HAVE to take a winter break from farming is always so appreciated by the end of fall but by now I’m starting to get antsy to get my hands in the soil.

The first of my specialty daffodils showed up this week and I had to try out this idea I’ve pondered for a year! This is a Japanese style of flower arranging called Ikebana-which just makes me smile with its simplicity & angles. Obviously, I’m no expert but it’s fun to be creative with blooms again!

These will be making an appearance at Harvest Moon Homestead for pre-order here soon!! Comment below if you don’t want to miss your chance at snagging one full of tulips!

The SUNSHINE!!! 🤩 Felt like 77* so it was the perfect day to work out around the farm! Removed sunflower stalks and brush. Cleared out space for the tulips and daffodils poking through. Cleaned out the “Duck Duck Goose Coop” that got a bit full this winter 💩 and got the ladies some fresh pond water to splash in!

We’re getting excited for tulips in the next month! Stay tuned for how to snag some. 💐

And we do have duck eggs $ goose eggs available for purchase-DM me ($8/12 duck & $2/ea goose). 🪿
