Uninstalling original sashes on a cold Monday morning in Michigan is one of my favorite things. These 6 over 6 sashes are receiving a full restoration treatment. Their home is an 1830s ear Greek Revival, but they are from the 1850s addition.

The oldest house in Bay City, Michigan. On this project, we replaced two rotted window sills and restored two windows. The project was a collaboration between the and the . This is a wonderful example of Greek Revival style of architecture which was common in Michigan in the 1830s and 1840s.

Last month, I attended the Window Preservation Standards Collaborative Window Preservation Summit at Pine Mountain Settlement School in Eastern Kentucky. I’m sure you are all tired of hearing about it, ha! While there, I tried my hand at glazing a few panes on this steel window with Jim Turner. Jim is the foremost expert on steel windows in perhaps the whole country. And this was an incredible opportunity to learn from one of the superstars of window restoration. Thank you Red Beard Restoration for the amazing photo!

Earlier this month, I travelled to Pine Mountain Settlement School to attend the Window Preservation Standards Collaborative Window Preservation Summit VI. Pine Mountain is a wonderful and unique place nestled in the mountains of Kentucky. The window summit is not your typical conference. Yes, there are sessions, and preservations, but it’s so much more than that. There are hands on demonstrations, a combined experience of hundreds of years of knowledge being shared to further our understanding and passion to restore original windows. Pine Mountain is very “summer camp” like, and a bell rings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This event is held every other year, and I can’t wait to return.

This is more for my friends already in the window restoration specialty. One of the challenges we faced when using spring bronze weather stripping is the tedious task of pre-punching holes to make installation more efficient. This jig has 7 nails spaced at 1 1/2 inch apart to create multiple punches at once.

This sash was made in 1850 and I had the opportunity to bring it back to life. I restored two window openings (4 sashes) for a client in Howell, Michigan. These were a joy to work on, but they kept me busy.

Next up is a consultation report for a preservation architect, sill replacement at a historic site in Bay City, storm sashes for a long standing client, and more.

As a result of amazing projects, I am behind on emails and inquiries. I’m thinking of switching to only receiving inquiries via telegrams and snail mail to give myself more time. Ha, not really!

In all seriousness, if you are waiting on me, my sincere apologies. If you haven’t heard from me, please poke me again to get on the schedule for 2026.
