This sofa made quite the journey before it ever made it into the Kips Bay Showhouse.
The fabric on the sofa was the inspiration for the entire space, but the journey to get it here was anything but simple.
After two separate shipments of Christopher Farr Cloth’s Carnival fabric were lost in customs, each one more time-sensitive than the last, I happened to be in Paris during Déco Off when we realized the second shipment was gone, and there was very little time to spare.
So I went to London, picked up the fabric directly from the Christopher Farr office, and brought it to Los Angeles, where Sean and the Burton James team had a courier ready. From there, it went straight into production.
What could have been a major setback became one of the most meaningful parts of this entire process.
The Carnival fabric in this terracotta colorway, so generously donated by Michal Silver and the Christopher Farr Cloth team, truly set the tone for the room. Seeing it come to life on the Burton James sofa, the anchor of the space, makes the story behind it all the more special.
I am incredibly grateful to Michal for her creative vision, her generosity, and her unwavering support in helping me bring this to the finish line. A heartfelt thank you to the entire Christopher Farr Cloth team, and to Sean and the Burton James team for their partnership, craftsmanship, and commitment in executing this piece under such extraordinary circumstances.
A true labor of love, in every sense. 🤍
