The light changes are no longer subtle, the sun sits low in the sky this morning.
It shows off the swag border on this petite embossed edge platter by Clews, c. 1814-1834. The combed back features an accompanying circular impressed mark. The textured pattern was created when the potter ran a comb-like tool across the wet clay of the base before firing. The swirled back is almost as lovely as the front.
One of a few I’ve held onto. Beautiful condition, no chips or cracks. Kiln marks on the verso. Perfect for serving slices of pumpkin bread, scones or cookies. Measures 14 1/2” x 11 1/4”. Difficult to find in this condition. Perfect for that special gift. DM for more information.

Happy Fall - and welcome to much cooler temps and no humidity!!! This is my absolute favorite time of year.

Available are these wonderful English drabware plates. Relief molded with grape vine and acanthus leaves. Circa 1840, 8 1/4” in diameter, there are 9, 6 in excellent condition, 3 with one minor rim flake on each.
Would display beautifully in a cabinet with majolica and Portuguese green cabbageware, frame around a mirror, or accent a wonderful wall scape. I no longer have a dining room sideboard, but looks great even grouped on a small game table, with stone fruit. Pricing as a group of 6, the 3 will be included as extras.
There is a beautiful footed tazza, on a major design site that would pair beautifully.
DM for more information.

One of the best things about summer - aperitivo time.

A favorite is from Ina Garten and her Crostini with Tuna Tapenade - flavors of the Mediterranean and Italy.
First time to try this Saldo Chenin Blanc by The Prisoner W**e Company - quite good with this bruschetta and will definitely will buy again.

Enjoy this last Friday in August. September is just around the corner.

Lots of storms here - high winds last night - tornado sirens and alerts - enough to move plants indoors - still getting rain today - lots of trees down in the area and flooding concerns in the tristate. Hope you missed out on all these storms.
Hummingbirds are not to be deterred- still making visits nonstop.

A quick roadtrip to Chattanooga last Friday. Shipped large Blenko lipped shades to a favorite client in Nashville from there vs Cincinnati, which were safely delivered the next day.
Picked up two small holiday trees from Vickie at High Country Cottage that she has been babysitting for me since January. (Downsizing includes Christmas decor. Passing on my skinny tree to my sister in law).
An overdue visit to family and grandchildren, lots of laughs, great food, never a dull minute. A quick stop at Mustard Seed, always lots of temptations - picked up few smalls, and this clock face. Had looked at it on a prior visit. Decided it would fit in the kitchen. Love the colors and the old world feel. Works with the European tiles, don’t you think?

Sharing this beautiful late 18th century Georgian mourning silk and embroidery panel.

I made a trip to Riverside Centre Antique Mall to look at some offerings in Jennie Murphy’s booth UPRIVER•Art•Antiques•Design. She had several stunning pieces of early needlework, a rarity in this area and …. multiple pieces in one spot. All were fabulous, but I kept going back to this one in particular.
The colors, the classic elements of a mourning piece - the urn and the draped fabric or swag (symbols of respectful remembrance), the pheasant and the snake both representing shedding for an eternal and renewed life - are all classic elements of early decorative textiles.

After a walk about, some encouragement and affirmation from my dear friend Nan City Mouse Antiques (who also has a splendid selection of English antiques), this piece made its way home.

Thank you again, Jennie Jennie W. Murphy for sharing your wonderful things. I am honored and thrilled to have another piece from a collection you hold dear to your heart.

Now for a ladder and some rearranging.
