⭐It was great seeing all the creative solutions to middle housing design that proves it can be affordable and sustainable at the same time, while still going above and beyond people's needs.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Voting has opened today through Nov 13 for the Middle Housing Design Competition and we are lucky enough to have submitted a design.
Our design is titled NET POSITIVE 4-PLEX 🏠

Middle Housing, often called the "missing middle" is housing types with densities between a single family home and an apartment complex, hence "middle". These are any of the -plexes (duplex, triplex, four-plex), cottage houses, or courtyard apartments.
This form of housing is currently not legal in most states but it needs to be! Middle housing will not only help with housing affordability but also fill the gaps on types of homes that people want and need. Bellingham is in the process of legalizing middle housing, so this competition is set to help people get familiar with the types of housing that can be formed!

For our design, NET POSTIVE 4-PLEX, we chose a 4-plex that would fit on a standard Bellingham lot, and look like a single family home from the street so it fits into any neighborhood with ease. Like with all our houses, this would be not only Net-Zero Energy but Net-Positive meaning it makes enough energy to power the house and 4 cars. It would also meet Built Green 4 or 5 star rating, be Indoor AirPlus, EnergyStar and Zero Energy Ready Home certified.

Whether it's a kid's secret hideaway, a spare bedroom, or storage space, lofts are a great way to add usable square footage, at little extra cost and without exceeding any sqft maximums.

Lofts work well with SIP construction since there is no attic allowing all of our homes to have vaulted ceilings. That means many of our homes can have additional loft spaces!
