Jill's Cookbook Club

Jill's Cookbook Club Growing community and confidence in the kitchen, one cookbook at a time! You can learn more and register for events on our website here.

Jill's Cookbook Club is a group of food lovers that meets twice a month to pick and then cook recipes out of the same cookbook - culminating in a potluck-style dinner! If you want to meet fellow foodies and explore new culinary worlds in a low-pressure environment - this is the group for you! Each month, Jill picks a cookbook that everyone will be cooking from. Then there are two events in both Be

nd and Redmond - a Planning Happy Hour and a Dinner Party. The Planning Happy Hour is free to attend, and there are multiple copies of the cookbook for you to select your recipe from and mingle and meet new people. The Dinner Party is $25 to attend (to cover our venue fee!) and you cook the recipe that you picked at home then bring it to the dinner to taste through the book and enjoy one another! The dinners are capped at 40 people and we've been selling out - so we highly encourage you to register for the dinner in advance on our website to hold your spot. Even if you can't make it to the dinner, we encourage you to come to the planning happy hour to meet folks and learn more about what the club is all about! We are looking forward to having you join us to create community, one cookbook at a time!

Introducing our May Cookbook: Hello, Home Cooking by Ham El-Wally!

You may recognize Ham’s last name - he is married to one of Jill’s Cookbook Club’s favorite cookbook authors, Sohla El-Waylly, author of Start Here! Hello, Home Cooking is Ham’s debut cookbook and I am thrilled to cook through it together. I chose this cookbook because Ham does a masterful job of translating the skills he has learned in NYC’s top kitchens and his training at the Culinary Institute of America into home cooking - combining his childhood Egyptian and Bolivian recipes with a flair of the masterful, a spoonful of comfort, and a whole lot of technique to learn from. His recipes are approachable, bright and playful, and I think we are going to have a fantastic feast as a result.

We aren't having Hood River events this month due to scheduling conflicts but Bend registration is live at the link in my bio! We hope you'll join us! 🧑‍🍳

This past Sunday in Hood River we gathered around a table filled with recipes made from "Good Things"! The dishes were incredible - Samin's recipes had so much flavor, freshness and playfulness and were truly a joy to make!

There is something so special about everyone cooking from the same cookbook and seeing the book come to life - 23 recipes made quite the feast!

Thank you Hood River for cooking, spending your Sunday with us, and making a community in the Gorge that shares wonderful food!

(And yes - I am still thinking about that Preserved Lemon Cake from the first slide)

Jill's Cookbook Club night in Hood River tonight!
We’re gathering around Good Things by Samin Nosrat and I can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the table.

Hood River is full tonight, but a few spots remain for the Bend dinner if you want to cook this book with us!

We’ll be serving these at our Jill's Cookbook Club dinners, and you can pair along from home if you’re cooking the book with us!

I'm thinking about our Jill's Cookbook Club dinner last month in Bend, and how 40(!!) recipes from "Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking" brought the most wonderful group of strangers turned friends together for a dinner. made us Italian-themed cocktails and were the warmest hosts for our first dinner party in their space!

Could you guess our March Cookbook based off the first slide? 👀

Introducing our March Cookbook: Good Things by Samin Nosrat! We cooked from Samin Nosrat’s first cookbook, Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat at one of our past Jill’s Cookbook Club dinners, and it was such a fantastic evening—so many memorable dishes and a real sense of confidence and curiosity in the room. I’ve been wanting to return to Samin’s work ever since, and her newest book, Good Things: Recipes and Rituals to Share with People You Love, felt like the perfect choice for March.

Unlike her first book, which focuses on teaching the foundations of cooking, Good Things is all about the joy of sharing food with others. It’s a collection of simple, flexible recipes designed for gathering, along with thoughtful reflections on what it means to cook for the people in your life. The whole book has a warm, generous spirit. It’s less about getting things perfect, and more about creating something meaningful and sharing it with others! Samin is known for her incredibly approachable and encouraging style, and her work always centers around building confidence in the kitchen and finding connection through food. I am so excited to cook through this book together!

Registration for Hood River and Bend is live on my website! I encourage you to register early if you’re planning to attend, as our events have been selling out fast.

Next up on our Faces of Jill’s Cookbook Club: Meet Julia!

If you’re headed to the Bend Planning Happy Hour at today from 4:30–6pm, you’re in for a treat — because the wonderful human running it is the very one we’re featuring today!

Julia has been part of the Bend Club since we first started back in 2021! Over the years she’s cooked with us, experimented with us, gone deep on spices with us… and now she runs our Bend planning happy hours!

If you’ve ever felt personally victimized by too many good recipe options, Julia is your person. She has a magic way of asking a couple of questions and then landing you on exactly the right dish, whether you want cozy, impressive, make-ahead, or just “I bought za’atar and now I need to use it.”

A little about Julia:
Cooking tool she couldn’t live without: Dutch oven (there are two of hers in the background of this photo — because of course there are)!

Favorite cookbook we've cooked from in the club: Ottolenghi Simple: A Cookbook by

Favorite cookbook of all time: A Little Taste of India (swipe for a tour of her very loved book!!)

Go-to drink order: a Black Manhattan or the Three Piece Suit at

Favorite part of Jill’s Cookbook Club: Discovering new spices and hearing other people’s experiences and reactions to them!

Julia brings so much warmth, flavor curiosity, and calm confidence to our Bend gatherings. I’m endlessly grateful she’s part of this community — and that she’s the one helping you choose what goes in your Dutch oven next!
