If you have gophers, the extra time you take to protect your harvest will be rewarded! Blueberries hardy for zone 4 do great in our area. Deer fence & raised beds with gopher wire is a must have. I added another layer, landscape fabric, because this was raw land with woods rose and deep rooted rhizomes of grass that’ll pop up into the raised beds.

Elderberry cuttings have rooted and growing! They’re super hardy in PNW, and most importantly in our Sunriver, Bend, La Pine climate. Plant it where it can be watered and use elderflowers for liqueur or their berries for syrups. Deer resistant and adds some texture to your landscape. Without pruning they can grow to be trees.
