I don’t have any sweeping statements to share today, nothing to offer other than the deepest love that a mother can muster as I hold this collective grief of what our community is experiencing.

The shop is closed today.

I am going out into the world with my children, holding their hands, pressing my lips to their cheeks, and breathing in the gift that is their nearness. All the while, my heart is breaking for my neighbors who are living a nightmare.

We will open tomorrow, as a cozy space to wander through if you need it.

Each piece that lives in my cupboards pulls double (or triple) duty from day-to-day. Mothers. Oh, mothers. I remember the first time I was in public after giving birth to my daughter, my first baby. Everywhere I looked, there were mothers; going about their business, browsing the aisle of the grocery store, tending to their children. And here I was, freshly aware of the enormity of motherhood. Not just the pain of labor or the tenderness of those early postpartum days, but the unfathomable rewiring of, well, everything. My body, seemingly broken and being slowly put back together again. My heart, so full it ached. I looked around and felt connected to the world, to women everywhere, in a way that was nearly impossible to explain. It is an honorable club to be a part of. Somehow the most mundane and the most remarkable of them all. So, here is to all the mothers who came before; all of the mothers who are wading through another sleepless night, washing another bowl of berries; all the mothers who are at rest and being missed deeply; all of the mothers-in-waiting. You are everything. And it is an honor to be a little corner of the world where you can come to be inspired, to smell a good smell, have a nice chat, let someone (me! Always!) hold the baby while you browse ❤️ xo Marti
