All Creatures Great and Small by James Harriot is a of a country large animal veterinarian. It’s a collection of Dr. Harriot’s most memorable cases set in the rural Yorkshire dales of England in the 1930’s. He blends anecdotes that are heart-warming victories and devastating losses to show the variety of patients and farmers he encounters. There’s also small doses of humor blended in with beautiful descriptions of the landscape. It’s easy to see why it’s a classic with its very own BBC series. In my opinion… reading this book gives you the warm fuzzies. It’s like the literature form of a Norman Rockwell painting. It’s not an action-packed, on-the-edge-of-your-seat type of book, but more of a soothing, rocking-chair-on-the-porch read. I think it’s worth reading, especially if you’re an animal lover. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. 📖
