After touring the locations of the D-Day invasion, we all sat quietly in the car on the ride back to our Airbnb. The magnitude of the hallowed ground where our feet had tread hit us as we processed conflicting feelings of sorrow and gratitude.

We leave here changed after visiting these places and hearing these stories. We are indebted to the young men who valiantly fought for the freedom and liberation of a country far from our own shores. We freely stand on this ground as the generations who came behind. The ones they fought to protect. The ones who commit to honor their lives and their service and their sacrifice. 🇺🇸

D-Day Invasion Sites visited:
📍: SAINTE MÈRE ÉGLISE - The first town in France to be liberated by American troops in WW2.
📍: ANGOVILLE AU PLAIN - In this small village, the tiny church was used as a first aid post by two 2 medics from the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, who managed to save the lives of many injured soldiers, American as well as German.
📍: UTAH BEACH - Of the two American sectors on D-Day, the landings at Utah Beach were the most successful.
📍: POINTE DU HOC - On top of 100ft high cliffs, the Germans had established a long-range gun battery. It was the task of US Army Rangers to assault this position, scale the cliffs and destroy the German guns.
📍: NORMANDY AMERICAN CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL - The final resting place of 9389 American servicemen and women from WW2, including the Normandy campaign, located on high ground overlooking the eastern side of Omaha Beach.
📍: OMAHA BEACH - The beach where the heaviest casualties on D-Day were suffered.

We highly recommend booking guide and historian: Mike of Allied Victory Tours if you plan to visit Normandy. He brought the stories and scenes to life in a meaningful and powerful way.

David’s words feel especially poignant this morning as I reflect on our time away- learning together, exploring together, resting together. What a gift it is to have a God who “hems me in behind and before”….

“You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!”

Psalm 139: 5-6 (NLT)

Earlier this week, we spent the evening at the magical home of Cat Bude - Rabbit Hill and her family. I couldn’t get over the fact that it felt like we were walking inside a movie scene - everything was just so charming.

As we ooh’d and awe’d over the rambling roses, Cat’s response really struck me. She thanked me for reminding her how absolutely lovely this life she and her husband, Alain, have built together really is. She said she can get caught up in the mundane and miss the sheer beauty around her at times.

Isn’t that true of all of us? Sometimes, we are so knee deep in the weeds of life - the bills to pay, the fence to paint, the animals to brush, etc etc - that we miss the beauty of it all. We forget to marvel at the way the sunlight streaks across the table or the way charm is inherent in imperfection.

We may not all live on a farm in the countryside of Normandy, but we all have beauty around us. Maybe we just need to invite new friends over to point it out to us a little more often. 🤍

On Saturday June 6, 2026, our family stood on the hallowed shore of Omaha Beach in Normandy. The place where, 82 years before us, 2,400 young men gave their lives for the sake of freedom. They were not much younger than my own sons and the fact that I was able to be there alongside my boys is not lost on me.

We stood there - the wind swirling sand around us, the sky overcast above us - and imagined the conditions of that horrific, courage-filled, day. The boys arriving in those boats had most likely never set foot on French soil and here we were, all these years later, in remembrance of their heroic sacrifice. It is a great honor for us to be here as a family. We will never forget the ones who went before us and are forever indebted to our all of our veterans. 🇺🇸

When your penguin-loving boy gets to celebrate his birthday (week) sleeping inside the penguin exhibit 🙌🤍.

I have so much to share about Pairi Daiza but let’s start with the Penguin room! I happened upon this magical place online last fall and knew that we would be nearby this summer so I joined the online queue on opening day for reservations and, 15 hours later, I booked the Penguin and Polar Bear rooms! SO worth it! Bucket list experience!

I had HIGH expectations and it has exceeded everyone one tenfold. 10/10 recommend!!

SIXTEEN! 🤍

I still picture you both as the itty-bitty preemies who fit in the literal palm of your dad’s hand or the rambunctious toddlers who giggled as you emptied every kitchen cabinet while my back was turned loading the dishwasher or the little boys who pretended to be gold miners out by the pond or the bigger kids who loved parkour and practiced ninja warrior techniques off the sofa.

The number of kitchen dance parties and soccer matches and basketball games I’ve watched over the years seems endless and, yet, barely enough. I find myself holding on to every single moment with you knowing these precious days under our roof are fleeting - watching you learn to drive (two new drivers!) or listening to you relay funny stories from school or hearing about girls (my heart hasn’t been ready for that one).

Watching you grow up feels like a long goodbye. A goodbye to the versions of you that I knew and loved so dearly for such a brief moment in time. And, also, a beautiful hello to this new version of who you are becoming. You are now these young men who are generous and kind and hardworking. You’re gentlemen who hold doors and carry heavy packages for me and mow the lawn when you see the grass is too long. You are little entrepreneurs and leaders and (one of you) inherited my sarcastic sense of humor. I love adventuring with you and exploring new places together while watching you gain independence and confidence as you navigate the world around you.

I couldn’t be more proud to be your mom. I love you with my whole heart and I’m immensely grateful that God saw it fit to make me a momma first with the gift of the two of you. Happiest of birthdays to you boys. I love you to the moon and back times a million trillion!! ❤️🥳

A few summers ago, our family toured the locations of the D-Day invasion. Afterwards, we all sat quietly in the car on the ride home. The magnitude of the hallowed ground where our feet had tread hit us as we processed conflicting feelings of sorrow and gratitude.

We left changed. While we have always been grateful for the men and women who have fought and died to protect our freedoms, we left that place with a renewed perspective. We carried the knowledge of being forever in debt to the young soldiers who valiantly fought for the freedom and liberation of a country far from our own shores.

We freely stand on the soil of our nation as the generations who came behind. The ones they fought to protect. The ones who commit to honor their lives and their service and their sacrifice and all the soldiers who fought before and after them, every day, especially today. 🇺🇸

(Also, I’ll never get over the adorableness of 3 year old Luke proudly reciting the Pledge of Allegiance). ♥️
